Abstract
MgO nano particles have unique optical, thermal and structural properties. In the present work we focus on the Synthesis of MgO nano particles. Magnesium nitrate hexahydrate Mg (NO3).6H2O, sodium hydroxide and distilled water were used for preparation magnesium oxide (MgO) via a precipitation method, where magnesium nitrate is used as a precursor, distilled water as a solvent and NaOH is used to maintain pH of the sample. The MgO was characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The optical properties have been recorded in the UV-Vis wavelength range from 200 nm to 800 nm. In this study the energy band gap was estimated using UV-Vis spectroscopy, which is equal to be 5.0 eV.
