Item Parental involvement in the academics of their childern at primary level(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Aamna WaheedThe purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions of parents living in Garden Town, Johar Town, and Model Town regarding involvement of parents in their children’s education. This study used a sample of parents and their children’s teachers. The methodology that was used in this study was questionnaires comprised of different questions. Results indicated a statistically significant association between parent involvement and a child's academic performance, over and above the impact of the child's intelligence. Parent involvement in a child's education is always seems to be confidently linked with a child's academic performance. Lack of parents’ involvement may have a negative impact on student performance in and out of the classroom. Teachers along with parents need to play a major role in connecting classrooms, homes, and schools for achieving better results.Item A study of the knowledge of current affairs acquired by the children with mental retardation(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Maria Naeem; Nazia NasimItem A study of literacy skills among children with hearing impairment studying in class vi(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Amna Shakeel; Madiha AmbreenThe students who are hearing impaired have poor literacy skills and do not develop age appropriate reading and writing abilities. Due to influx of technology majority of the students are ambitious for higher education and reaching out for their educational needs globally. However, the educational level and situation in our schools systems is still a big question mark. Unfortunately, schools are unable to deliver quality teaching/learning environment to its stakeholders therefore many other supplementary options are available to satisfy this quench of learning. Researcher was keen in finding out the stimulating factors among the prevailing educational and supplementary practices in our culture i.e. culture of tuition centers and tuition academies. To fulfill this objective an empirical study was conducted and a questionnaire was distributed among 3 different types of respondents i.e. students at tuition centers, parents and school teachers. Total number of respondents were 240 i.e. 80 respondents belonging to each group mentioned above. Data was collected through the method of random sampling from the 10% of the area under study i.e. Punjab society, Wapda town, Faisal town and Johar town and their vicinities. Findings revealed that this tuition center culture has permeated to a great extent in our society. Students who attend tuition centers consider it as a better option to fulfill their educational requisites and parents have also accepted these tuition academies as a healthier place of learning where a comfortable environment is provided to students. Conversely, the school teacher responses revealed that they are fulfilling their educational responsibilities quite sincerely; however students and parents response doesn’t support this notion. Therefore, findings evidently reveal a contradiction among respondents. Researcher recommends school accreditation from public sector body which specialize for better system of accountability, parent counseling forums, improved professional development and training opportunities not only for teachers but also for educational managers, technology oriented testing methods must be incorporated to develop a transparent system of evaluation in schools. Primarily, a culture of learning, knowledge sharing and developing wisdom among students must be introduced among the educational stakeholders in order to emphasize the true meaning of education. Attainment of higher grades and studying for grade acquisition and chasing it like anything should not be the practice in our society at large rather it must be condemned through more research.Item Evaluation of teachers’ style of grading homework(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Amer NadeemItem Female education leadership in rural arees of pakistan(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Gul-e-MarialmThe conceptual debates and empirical studies have persistently stressed upon the role of school leadership in school effectiveness and school improvement. It is known, “Scratch the surface of an excellent school and you are likely to find and excellent principal. Peer into a failing school and you will find weak leadership” Leithwood, K.A. and Riehl (2003). This statement suggests that the success or otherwise of any school totally depends upon the school leadership practices. This study aims to find out educational experiences of female leaders in schools of rural areas of Pakistan. This research is an attempt to explore the barriers and constraints in the working of female educational leaders in the rural community. In the rural environment many obstacles need to be overcome for female head teachers to reach levels of professionalism and recognition. Exploring the leadership practices in the private schools of rural context would be helpful in identifying the best practices which might assist the newly emerging schools in improvement and effectiveness. This research has been conducted in qualitative paradigm to measure behavior and construct of female school heads in rural area. The sample selected for qualitative research was purposive. Respondents were four female school heads, selected from the rural area of District Okara, Punjab Province, Pakistan. The tool employed was interview with open-ended questions so that valid and reliable data is collected for research purposes by face-to-face interview technique. It was observed that in Pakistan, particularly in the rural areas, the educational leadership among females is a challenging job. Lack of professional training for school heads, societal pressures of preconceived notions on the behavior of women in a patriarchal society, juggling home and work, accompanied by other barriers for females hinder the progress of women in work environment.Item A study of students’ perception about principals(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Ayesha AfzalThe study focuses on the perception of a student specifically about a principal. How a student perceives his/her principal’s behaviour from his/her own capacity in school is the main objective of this study. A qualitative approach was used to document and analyze the perception of a secondary school student about his/her principal in the context of Pakistani culture. A descriptive method was used to carry out the study. Interviews with the secondary school students were conducted to capture their perception specifically about their principal and generally about schooling. This general perception of a student about schooling was considered relevant with his/her specific perception about his/her principal. Interviewees were both male and female students of secondary school. A questionnaire was developed to use for the interview of students. Although my main objective of thesis was students’ perception about principals yet such a perception about principals could be gauged through a spectrum of other possibilities which enhanced my understanding of the issue at hand. The principal was found knowledgeable and supportive as per norm and not as an exception. The students showed a bit digressed that the Principal does not do as he/she says. He/she goes by the situation norms or the rules. The environment at the school is reported to be preferential for some students not for all in all matters. It is recommended that the job description of the Principal should be clearly known to the students as well as to the principal and the Principal should be exposed to the training in socialization, value characterization, and instructional leadership as the custodian of the school.Item Factors affecting parental choices for private school as compared to public school(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Ghulam HaiderItem Job satisfaction level of teachers at private colleges in lahore(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Ambreen AshrafJob Satisfaction is the quantity of overall positive feeling that individuals have towards their jobs. Since a nation's progress depends on the quality of education, which in turn depends on the quality of the teachers, the quality of teaching is well related with the satisfaction of the teachers towards their job. The present study attempts to study the factors that conclude job satisfaction level of private college teachers towards their profession. Furthermore, it is generally expected that there is a relation between overall job satisfaction and nine factors like pay, promotion, supervision, benefits, conditional rewards, operating condition, coworkers, nature of work and communication. The quality of the teachers depends on various factors such as level of academic excellence, commitment to teaching, passion to impart knowledge, motivation of teachers, and adequate fulfillment of teacher’s expectations which will ultimately result in job satisfaction. A teacher, who is happy with his job, plays a pivotal role.Item Problems and issues of introducing the practicum in teacher education(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Anum RasheedTraining is vital to sharpen the teaching capabilities of the teacher for the success of teaching learning process. Training of teacher comprises two major components namely; theory and practice (practicum) and both these components need to balance. However, the teacher education in Pakistan is alleged to be a theory-oriented and a very little time is allocated to practice teaching. Practice teaching program is carried out in school its aim the help student apply the skill teacher on which they have been preparation stages for teaching The major purpose of the study were to ermine the issues and problem of practicum and highlight those problem faced by administration, teacher, student of during the teaching practice (practicum) The general object purpose of the proposed study is to find the issue and problem during teaching practices. And second the purpose of my proposed study is to find practices is more effective than theory and .specific object of my study is find out significance difference between professional teacher and non-professional teacher in teaching parties and second objective is define significance difference between experienced teacher and non-experienced teacher in teaching The scope of the study was limited to the government school of (wahdat road Lahore) Lahore. The area of population of my study consisted all trained and untrained teacher of government school wahdat roads Lahore The questionnaire was developed from the international standards of accomplished teachers. A pilot testing was also made to check the reliability and validity of the research instrument. My study show that the practicum is an essential part of teacher training. As the doctors are not qualified till they do not complete their house job, or qualification of engineers and business professional are not completed without internship, practicum should be the part of teacher education. Without practicum teachers cannot be prepared at the level of international standards and they will not be able to improve the education and to bring it to the international standards. Pakistan is putting stress on teacher education but practicum is still not the part of teacher training. Theoretical knowledge of teachers will be useless without practicing in the real classroom situation under the supervision of qualified supervisors.Item A study of identification of dyscalculia in children of grade 5 enrolled in government and private schools of lahore(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Ghazala Sadiq Bhatti; Zunaira ImtiazItem The impact of hearing loss on self-esteem of the children with hearing impairement(UMT, Lahore, 2013) ana Shaukat; Sidra ShaukatItem Classroom management as a contributing factor towards learning at secondary school(UMT, Lahore, 2013) Ali AbbasEducation has ever been a concern of societies with a touch of quality, equality, equity and sustainability of the same. The processes of education contribute towards the promotion of functions and elevation of the products of education. One of the processes that gains prominence is the classroom management. In classroom management it is not only the seating rather it is the attitude that develops in students the urge for education. In normal practice the big towns attract the attention of educators, decision makers and planners, but the little towns like chiniot does not catch the attention of the concerned to develop the school in general. There were only four male schools in chiniot three in government sector and one in private sector. All the four were approached for the conduct of research; the permission to this effect was obtained from the authorities of the schools. Two questionnaires were developed for the furtherance of research; one was meant for students studying in the class ten of the schools for the session 2012-13 and another was meant for the teachers working in those schools and were the teachers of the students selected as the subjects of study. There were 56 items in the questionnaire meant for the students and 53 in the questionnaire meant for the teachers. The face validity was got determined by the experts and the same questionnaires were administered to the class IX students of the sample schools chronebach alpha was computed as .79 and .73 for the questionnaires meant for the teachers and the students as well respectively. As per permission the researcher turned up gave a briefing session to the students in their respective classes and the teachers in the staffroom about the filling in of the questionnaire as per intents of the research. The intent of research laid down as objectives was as; identifying the practices followed by teachers and their impact at secondary level achievement of the students, isolating the good classroom managers. The study being restricted to the topic, “Classroom management as a contributing factor towards learning at secondary school” was expected to surrender following divide dents; • Classroom management, often called classroom discipline, the opinion surveys of educational priorities were mostly divulged through such surveys, (Rose & Gallup, 2006) the study would help excavate that how discipline problem is being controlled through classroom management. • In a 2006 survey of Pre-K through 12th grade teachers conducted by the American Psychological Association (APA), teachers identified help with classroom management and instructional skills as their top need. Results from this study would help us know the realities on ground. • Educators have consistently rated discipline as one of the most serious obstacles to promoting effective teaching. In addition:classroom management has been cited as one of the most prevalent reasons for job burnout and attrition of first-year teachers, teachers’ concerns over their own safety directly relate to the use of effective classroom management programs. • It would be made known that how much students feel unsafe due to lack of effective disciplinary procedures and potential for violence. • Although there is no agreed-upon definition of classroom management, the framework offered by Evertson and Weinstein (2006) represents a current and widely accepted view. According to Evertson and Weinstein, classroom management has two distinct purposes: “It not only seeks to establish and sustain an orderly environment so students can engage in meaningful academic learning, it also aims to enhance student social and moral growth” (p. 4). The authors identify five specific tasks that show classroom management as a multi-faceted activity. It extends beyond some of the more traditional behavior management techniques frequently recommended to deal with students with disruptive behavior. Specifically, they note that teachers should do the following: • Develop caring, supportive relationships with and among students; • Organize and implement instruction in ways that optimize students’ access to learning; • Use group management methods that encourage student engagement with academic tasks,Promote the development of student social skills and self-regulation; and • Use appropriate interventions to assist students who have behavior problems. • Multi-level model of interventions can be explored begining with (1) school-wide systems of support (called universal or primary prevention), (2) small group or more focused interventions (called selected or secondary intervention) for students who have similar problems such as aggression, and (3) individualized interventions (called indicated or tertiary intervention) for students who need very focused and more intense services for problematic and disruptive behavior. • Tertiary interventions may typically be used with students who have a more severe range of disruptive behaviors. These interventions begin with a functional assessment of the problematic behaviors. • At the universal level, schools establish expectations for behavior; students, staff, and families state these expectations to ensure that they are understood; schools operationalize positive behaviors and teach them to students; teachers have pro-social contacts with students; teachers receive formal training in behavior management; the school establishes a school-wide leadership team; and the school implements a systematic system of recording student behavior to facilitate decision-making regarding students behavior. • At the secondary level of intervention, an evidence-based program such as First Steps to Success (Walker, Stiller, Bolly, Kavanagh, Steverson, &Feil, 1997) can be implemented with groups of students in need of this level of support. At the tertiary level, schools can establish individualized programs for some students based on an analysis of what function the problematic behavior may be serving for the student. • Because most classroom teachers have not been trained in functional assessment of behavior, it is important that they consult with their colleagues who have expertise in this area. Detailed information on establishing systems of positive behavioral support can be obtained from this study • “Schooolwide Positive Behavior Support: Building Systems to Develop and Maintain Appropriate Social Behavior” in the Handbook of Classroom Management Lewis, Newcomer, Trussell, and Richter (2006). • In contrast to PBS, which is based on a multitiered risk model of prevention, SEL focuses on building life skills and social competence. Further information on SEL can be found through several sources (e.g., Devaney, Utne O’Brien, Resnik, Keister, &Weissberg, 2006; Elias, Zins, Weissberg, Frey, Greenberg, Haynes, Kessler, Schwab-Stone, & Shriver, 1997; Zins, Weissberg, Wang, & Walberg, 2004). • As an example of establishing social and emotional skills in the classroom, a teacher may hold class meetings or sharing circles where students are encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings about school and community events. These activities promote social interactions and build a sense of community in the classroom. The study has been designed to achieve the objectives like;identification of the practices, extent of their use, their impact and isolating good practices of classroom management from the bad. Research under question was a descriptive survey of the opinions of teachers and students at Government and private Boys High Schools of class IX session 2012-13. Study was intended to find out the classroom management ways at the four schools. Two questionnaires were developed one for the teachers and the other for the students. Data were collected by the researcher himself by administering the instruments.Only three available government high schools and one private boys high school was selected as the sample spot. 100 students each from three government schools and 100 students from one private school could be selected as sample because of the maximum number of available students. Four science teachers teaching to the science students were selected as the sample from each of the government and private boys high schools which were selected as sample. Two teachers whose classroom management was to be evaluated were one each from government and private boys high school, were also supposed to act as sample. No categorization could be made as rural/urban etc. Two questionnaires were developed one for the teachers and the other for the students. The face validity of the instruments was got determined by the experts where as the reliability was determined through pilot test and computing of Chronbach Alpa. The reliability of the questionnaire for students was .73 and that of teachers it was Lists bearing the name and roll numbers were obtained from the class teachers. Permission to administer the questionnaires was sought from the school principals. Data time and venue was settled with the teachers concerned. Researcher turned up earlier got the seats adjusted before the start students were told the intent of research. Each of the questions was translated in Urdu written on the black board, on attempting the item passed on to the next. Regarding teachers their convenient schedule was asked for and time date and venue was fixed with each teacher individually. The study made us recommend; developing caring, supporting relationships with and among students. In addition to it organizing implementing instruction in ways that optimize students’ access to learning, go for the use of group management methods that encourage student engagement with academic tasks, promote the development of student social skills and self-regulation; and use appropriate interventions to assist students who have behavior problems.
