To evaluate the influence of repeatability and reproducibility on the overall process variations by using the measurement system analysis
(UMT, Lahore, 2015) Zaghum Shafqat Chahal, Zeeshan Aslam, Mir Arsalan Ali and Raheel Mustafa Ghumman
In manufacturing industries, where parts/products are manufactured, variation is observed from time to time in the parts manufactured. Sometimes these variations are caused due to faults n the measurement system, For making decisions regarding the processes, actual facts and data are required and we need to know where the variations origin from. For this we use the Measuring System Analysis to find out the contribution accuracy errors (biasness and linearity) and precision errors (repeatability and reproducibility) make and their impact on the overall process variation. This research thesis is conducted in an automobile industry which manufactures (and assemble at some points) parts and engines for mainly tractors. The company was receiving complaints for engine transmission parts not meeting the requirements although the company quality records showed that all part were inspected to be ok. This lead to the question of variance arising due to measurement system hence MSA was implied. After conducting the ‘Measurement System Analysis,’ it was unearthed that the company had negligible accuracy issues (as the instruments were recently calibrated) and precision issues (repeatability and reproducibility) contributed majorly to the overall process variance. The reason for these errors was the skills of operators, lack of training, standardized methods and absence of fixtures.

(UMT, Lahore, 2015) Alyas Ali, Kamran Abbas, Fahad Ikram and Ahmad Jawad
Purpose of this report is to inform about the lean tool value steam mapping. It itself is not a strategy but imply different strategies in this tool for the improvement. It is used to differentiate non-value added activities from the value added activities. It creates an image about the material flow and information flow in products and services. Many other organizations are using this method because by using this method they come to know about their problems and improves the processes by several techniques. It includes information flow from top management to workers and from the suppliers to the customers. As lean has been developed it is being implied in different industries for the improvement of the material and service flow. In this report value stream mapping is implemented in Kohinoor Textile Mill located at manga mandi Multan road. For this purpose firstly the six key performance factors are identified. Secondly different process are carried out to for the improvement of these factors. These key factors are 1) efficiency 2) lead time 3) work in process 4) defects 5) transportation. When these KPI's are identified the data regarding them is collected. The current state map is being drawn and non-value added activities are being identified and are eliminated for the purpose of improvement. Lean principles are applied, solutions are presented and future sate map is drawn which shows all the improvements made in the current state map. All the plans made are then implemented to achieve the future state map. Results are quantified and compared with the current state map. By the implementing of this technique the non-value added activities are eliminated and effective use of the resources and removal of the wastes is done so that the value added activities are done effectively. This report also emphasizes the VSM’s important role in the fabric production.

Cost benefit analysis of automated storage & retrieval system for car parking
(UMT, Lahore, 2015) Zain -ul-Abideen, Muhammad Ehsan Ghani Khan, Muhammad Irfan and Mohsin Rasool
The growing number of cars in Pakistani metropolitans is adding to vehicular emission, congestion and exerts tremendous pressure on limited available parking space. It is impossible to provide more space in the old constructed markets. This affects the people adversely in every area; especially the commercial activities, as people are hesitant to shop at markets where car parking is not possible. It adds to the anxiety, frustration, safety and security problems. So the need of the better parking solution is acute. An automatic parking is space saving and cost effective alternative and at the same time resolves traffic congestion issues, minimize accidents on roads and other stress injuries. Main purpose of the research is to check the feasibility of automated storage and retrieval system for car parking. First step is the realization of problem, as there are a lot of traffic problems arising due to increasing number of vehicles on road. To determine the parking problems, a customer survey is conducted at Liberty Lahore. Result of this survey show that people are not satisfied with existing parking. By consulting various Government organization like Lahore parking company, TEPA and Environment protection Department, Punjab encouraged us that the need of installing such problem solving project is essential. After acquiring cost details from International Manufacturers and calculating all benefits that can be extracted from this project, help us to perform Benefit cost ratio analysis. After that we have reached to an optimal solution. The results of this study are that this project is feasible at Liberty Lahore. Furthermore this project could be made more economical if the Government subsidize this project.
