There are multiple reasons behind it, apart from being offspring-less, to fulfill personal wishes or to take care of needy children. Adoption has deep roots throughout the history of the world. It is as old as world religions and societies. The primary objectives of child adoption have been different in various religious and social communities. In our study, we have explored and summarized adoption and its forms over the period of time. We have covered how it was practiced by various world religions and societies. More specifically, we have discussed what rules Islam has laid down for adoption and how realistic they are towards human nature. We have also discussed the key issues linked with adopting a male and a female child.
