Camera based human fall detection system
(UMT Lahore, 2014-10) Alizaa Fatima; Fatima Idrees
Human fall occurrences are seen as health disasters, especially when elderly people become its victim; as they are more prone to bad health conditions. Detection and notification of a fall, as soon as it occurs can be lifesaving. By detecting falls automatically, as they occur, better timed medical care can be given which can in turn reduce the subsequent medical complications. In this project we proposed an effective fall detection system based on a dataset of videos generated using multiple cameras. We have devised a camera based system for the purpose of detecting falls and indicating them. It detects falls from a video captured from the cameras installed in the suspected area where fall could occur, and then it notifies the concerned parties about the occurrence of the fall. A feature based approach is used that is novel and outperforms other existing approaches on fall detection in terms of accuracy.

Propose steam turbine as alternative to reduce breakdowns
(UMT Lahore, 2014) AQSA MAJID; AHSAN RAZZAK; HUSSAIN AHMAD
This paper will present a project of electric energy generation by utilizing steam produce in paper making process by Implementation of a steam turbine of 1500 kW using, rise husk or coal. Nowadays, the energy supply in the maqsood fasial board paper mill is based on a diesel generators and WAPDA. Although the steam turbine system, which will be used in this project is expensive but it will overcome their problem of breakdown. With this Project, it is expected that company get interested in develop its own electricity to confirm the economical viability of the project, as well as the cost reduction and the efficient gains. Main problem is a breakdown occurs due to short fall of electricity. Machinery has to be start four to five times in 24 hours. They were at the end of electricity feeder and there is lot of voltage fluctuation. Due to breakdown they are not able to maintain the efficiency of dryer section as required. Using diesel generators per roll cost is increasing against their profit on per roll. This problem is selected because they are facing significance profit loss. Due to breakdown they face 5% loss of the paper cost at the starting of each roll. Significance of this problem is that there is a big risk element due to sudden break downs. Because they are at high temperature and sudden downfall causes temperature variation in drying section which affect the efficiency of drying and pressing section. After observing there process we try to find out solution. We introduce technology for this problem is that a steam turbine is used for power generation to utilize the steam and makes its power own. Back pressure steam turbine is used for this purpose and high pressure water tube boiler use with it. The steam uses in turbine is that which is basically use for drying section and for cooking pulp. When steam passes through the back pressure steam turbine its pressure and temperature drops which is enough to dry the paper. High pressure water tube boiler is type of boiler in which water circulates in tubes heated externally by the fire. Fuel is burned inside the furnace, creating hot gas which heats water in the steam-generating tubes.

    Intelligent driver monitoring system
(UMT Lahore, 2014) Muhammad Jabbar; Abdul Razzaq; Irfan Sattar; Muhammad Jawad Khalil
Due to the lack of attention of drivers, road accidents are very common all over the world. Facts on traffic accidents state that driver’s mistake is the major reason of loss and harm on roads all over the world every day. In this paper we described a module for intelligent driver monitoring system to decrease the extent of such losses which can automatically detects the driver distraction. We present a system for driver’s distraction detection which is caused by the driver’s varying head position. Our detection scheme is based on a geometric shape triangle. This paper expresses the techniques to monitor driver safety by evaluating information associated to the visual features of the driver. This monitoring system normally works based on driving prototype, driver’s video and images.

Automated attendance system via face recognition (national ICT R&D funded)
(UMT Lahore, 2014) Isra Anwar; Shah Nawaz; Ghulam Kibria
Face recognition from image is a popular problem in biometrics research. In the last decade, a lot of research has been done in this area. Face recognition is one of the most relevant applications of image analysis. It’s a true challenge to build an automated system which equals human ability to recognize faces. The advantage of face based identification over other biometrics is its wide acceptability because it does not require any keys, tokens, smart cards, PINs, plastic cards, passwords etc., In this work, face recognition has been done using various feature based approaches. In this paper, two new approaches for feature based face recognition are presented. In both of these approaches, new features are proposed and evaluated. The main contribution of this paper is usage of a slope table along with other features for face recognition. The slopes of different fiducial points of facial components (left eye, right eye, nose and lips) are computed to fill the slope table. These two approaches are compared with the existing approaches based on popular features like principal components and ratios of facial components. The results show that our approaches outperform the existing approaches.

    Online college admissions system
(UMT Lahore, 2014-10-02) Faiz-ur-Rehman; Moazam Ali
We have a great opportunity to make an Online College Admissions System (OCAS). Every year, hundreds of thousands of students and their parents stand in long queues at public colleges across Punjab to complete the admissions application process. The process traditionally remains hectic, time-consuming, and costly for students and their families, who have no option but to take time off from work to tend to the matter. A web-based system enables applicants to apply over the Internet for admissions to government institutions, where technology interventions could make the application process convenient for applicants, their parents, as well as college administrators. The Online College Admissions System (OCAS) will be built to provide easy, convenient, efficient, and reliable access to students for admissions.

(UMT Lahore, 2014) Muhammad Hamza Sarwar; Arslan Niamat
Online shopping is among the most popular activities of the internet, yet the reasons why consumers buy online are still unclear. Although it is implied that consumer acceptance of online shopping is affected by different products not many studies have adopted this view. This study attempts to examine consumers’ attitude when making online purchases in the context of different product types. A theoretical framework is proposed based on the determinants of consumer behavior and user acceptance of online shopping, as well as online product classification. The factors that were selected to be tested are Personal Innovativeness of Information Technology (PIIT), Self-efficacy, Perceived security, Privacy, Product involvement and how they affect consumer attitude towards online shopping. Correlation analysis, at first, to determine the relationships among the variables and regression analysis afterwards to verify the extent of the variable interaction were used to test the hypotheses.

    Locovox Game Engine
(UMT Lahore, 2014) Fazal Ur Rehman Sharif; Hasan Mukhtar; Qasim Ali
The main purpose of this project is to be able to create a two dimensional role playing game engine which enables a user to quickly and easily create, save, distribute and play games which they have created. Our emphasis was placed on being able to do this using a small set of powerful tools. A game is able to be made through the creation and customization of maps and events that the in game character (the sprite) can interact with. Once a game has been made, it can also be played using the software. The created game is able to be saved as a single .game file that can be reloaded back into the project for playing or further editing. For our project, similar already available tools were analyzed and followed to identify their key features and to ensure that our game engine had a unique selling point. The development methodology chosen was used to reduce the risk, should the project not be fully completed on time and to be adaptive to unforeseen changes.

Automatic recognition of people is a challenging problem which has received much attention during recent years due to its many applications in different fields. Automatic speech recognition performs well under restricted conditions but the performance get worse in noisy environments. Our main purpose of the project was to develop a voice recognition system through which we could operate certain commands of computer e.g. open my computer, shut down computer etc. and we have been very much successful in completing our project. We have searched various computer languages in which we could work and we have far felt better with HMM (hidden Markov model) and Java. We have been fully able to train our computer and complete our project. The development methodology chosen was used to reduce the risk, should the project not be fully completed on time and to be adaptive to unforeseen changes.
