    Effect of the teachers’ personality and communication styles on students

    Teachers have an important role in the life of students. The central premise of this study is to ascertain the effect of teachers‟ personality and communication style on students‟ engagement in higher education. The study attempts to corroborate that how teachers „walk and talk‟ in the academic matters of their students. A quantitative survey comprising 40 items was used to know students perceptions about teachers‟ personality and communication style, which keeps them engaged in academic behaviors in the university in the context of Pakistani culture. The data was collected from three universities of Lahore, one public and two private. 521 students, both male and female participated in the survey and their responses were recorded and analyzed using SPSS 21. Descriptive and inferential analysis techniques were used to determine relationships among various constructs of personality and communication of the university teachers. The objective was to find out what influences students and what disappoints them. Teachers‟ personality and communication enriched with empathy and genuine feedback were found to be the most influencing factors engaging students in constructive academic behaviors, whereas, strict behaviors and use of harsh and difficult words by the teachers disappoint students.     A study of supervision of teaching practicum

    This research study was designed to investigate supervisory practices of teaching practicum and development of a plan for improvement. The mixed research approach was used to complete this research. For the purpose of data collection five universities of Lahore were selected by using Random Sampling technique. One-hundred students–teachers and twenty supervisors, selected by using random sampling technique, took part in this research. Two questionnaires were used to collect data from student teachers and supervisors.Both likert scale item and open ended questions used to collect the data. Data were analyzed by using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings threw light over the current supervisory practices of teacher practicum needs to be improved by employing various innovations like inculcation of Information Technology, regular and vigorous supervision and proper documentation of student teacher teaching practices. Practicum has been found beneficial enough for those who are planning to adopt teaching as profession. It has also been found that present practicum exercise can be made better through some changes: Introduction of IT technology in teachers training program Regular supervision of student teacher Proper documentation of their practicum period Holding reinforcement classes By acting upon above mentioned suggestions, quality teachers are likely to be produced which, in turn, would be helpful in the promotion of quality education.

    Role of parent’s belief systems on intervention of children with disabilites

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the parent’s beliefs about disability and the role of this already existing belief on the intervention of children with disability. Four categories Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, Mental retardation and physical impairment were targeted. It was a qualitative study focused on obtaining in-depth and rich information of beliefs. Sample was the parents of the children with disability who were purposively selected and Semi-structured interviews were employed for collecting in depth data of the phenomenon. The finding provides in-depth details of parents’ view of their child’s disability, societal experiences of their child’s disability, adopted specific strategies of intervention and parents satisfaction about the selected intervention. Fears related to the future of girls and boys were also varying. Parents shared different opinions of disability some perceiving it as Reward while others as punishment ultimately leaving effect on selection of intervention.     Need assessment of inclusive education in public schools of punjab

    This study aims to highlight the need of inclusion in public schools of Punjab. The purpose of the study was to make a thorough need assessment in public schools of Punjab. The demographic variables were also explored with the respect of age of heads of institutes and class teachers. The population of the study was all the head teachers and class teachers of general education schools in Punjab. There are thirty six districts in Punjab. Eight districts were randomly selected and list of schools from all these eight districts was obtained and using probability sampling technique, 160 schools was selected. The tool used for this research was a self-developed questionnaire. Two questionnaires were developed. One for school head one for class teacher. Three experts assessed the validity of instrument. The instrument was sent to all these schools through mail and after continuous follow up 150 schools responded. So, the sample of the study constitutes (n=150) heads and (n=630) teachers. SPSS version 16 was used for data analysis. Collected data was tabulated, interpreted and analyzed in the light of objectives of the study by using statistical tools such as mean, standard deviation, T. test and One Way ANOVA.In the light of conclusion, majority heads of institutes and class teachers are in the favor of inclusive education with the sufficient provision of resources. It is recommended that public schools can accommodate special students with normal peers if necessary resources (physical, financial and human) provide to them. Trainings of schools heads and teachers about the needs of special children also play wonderful effects. More researchers should be conducted about the current condition of special children and regarding the topic of need assessment of inclusion In recent policy of education a shift of thinking towards special needs and support services is recommended. It is a commitment to develop an inclusive education and training system. This country will face real change with the implementation of educational policy and recommendations. Conduct TV campaign program about inclusive, vocational and other type of education for awareness of the community.

    Need assessment for instructional materials for successful implementation of inclusive education

    This study was conducted to examine the need assessment for the instructional materials for the successful implementation of inclusive education. The study therefore selected fifteen schools of Punjab Province in Pakistan, striving for the implementation of inclusive education. The participants selected for interviews were the directors and teachers of the inclusive schools. The schools which were used for data collection are doing great work for inclusive education. These schools allowed children without discrimination into their schools for getting education according to their level. The selected schools are prominent for implementing Inclusive education and have done a kind of adaptation in their school’s policies and plans in order to include all the children. The nature of study followed qualitative method of research. In this study, the researcher selected the methodology, predominantly on the basis of research objectives and questions and the study was carried out using a qualitative methodologies conforming to Semi structured interviews and Checklist. The standards for testing the practices of inclusive education were based on the variables like accessibility of all pupils to school, atmosphere, students, background of teachers and their education, curricular and learning activities, learning and teaching interaction, learning results, societal support, management and major problems and restraints faced by the schools that are practicing inclusive education. In this study, all the interviews have done by the researcher himself as the study requires deep and thorough discussion with the semi structured interview. After collection of data it was analyzed manually. The findings showed that no serious effort is done till now. The current system of inclusive education is seen in few of the ordinary schools. The infrastructure of the school has not made according to the needs of the children with special needs. The schools need funds and resources in order to make the school feasible for the children with special needs and there is a strong need of teachers training for the betterment of children with special needs. It is recommended to develop a linkage among special, ordinary and inclusive schools for the better practices. The school must start training courses for the teachers, so that the students show better results in inclusive education. The schools must change their infrastructure and curricular activities for the successful implementation of inclusive education.

    Access to quality education

    In the current decade government of Pakistan in general and government of the Punjab education department in particular addressed the need for advancement in processes of education that needs promotion of education as an identity. The measures included various sort of diverse initiatives, the prominent being; Directorate of Staff Development (DSD), Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), Punjab Examination Commission, Chief Minister’s Education Reforms Roadmap, Punjab Education Sector Reforms Programme (PESRP), Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) and Daanish Schools. It is customary that measures are undertaken but not monitored and followed up which causes chaos and panic ultimately leading to non fulfillment. The study under discussion is an endeavor addressing the “Access to quality education; Analysis of initiatives of Government of the Punjab”. The major objectives persuaded were to identify the initiatives of the government of the Punjab wherein the span of accomplishment lies within 2013-18. It aimed at studying the initial intents and their level of achievement. It further intends to explore the problems that came across by the different initiatives in their realization and to know the impact of undertaking initiatives on the quality of education in the province. It was a descriptive study spread over document analysis, interviews and focus group discussion. Interviews of individuals who worked in the decision making capacity are found well versed with the processes and initiatives undertaken in particular. The initiatives were discussed in isolatio n from others and procedure of description comprised of introduction, intents, infrastructure, initiatives, budget allocation, achievements and gaps in practices. The conclusions were drawn initiative wise and the major conclusion was that initiatives were partially undertaken and most of them remained unaccomplished. Chief Minister’s Education Reforms Roadmap is a vivid example which has been accepted by the government as a total failure and it has been advised to reinitiate the same by the experts. The recommendations have been made as the consolidated facts which are to be followed for all the initiatives. None of the initiatives were practicable; it is recommended that essential framework, finance and expertise be made available first and then the initiatives be launched. It is recommended that the initiatives already launched and partially matured, be fulfilled first before undertaking any new initiative and the man power from within the department be utilized for making the initiatives operational rather than entrusting it to the bureaucracy.

    Perceptions of the teachers about Allama Iqbal as character builder

    The major objective of the research was to investigate the perception of teacher about Allama Iqbal as a character builder at secondary level. This study was descriptive in nature. It was not possible for the researcher to collect the required information from all the teaching staff so only a sample of 100 teachers was taken for the purpose of data collection.The researcher selected four govt. and private schools through convenient sampling technique in district Faisalabad as a sample.There were 32 male and 68 female teachers. Age of teachers was from 20 to 50, there education was from matriculation to M.Phil. Simple convenient sampling technique was used to select the sample. A structured questionnaire containing 26 items for the teaching staff was designed for the collection of data for study. All the questions were close endedat five point likert scale. The opinionsand perception of teachers were analyzed through SPSS. Mean and Standard Deviation were calculated. A large number of the respondents were agreed with the statement that Iqbal was the greatest personality character builder the Muslim world produced during the last thousand years. Majority of the teachers were agreed with the statement that innovative techniques promote parental choice in curriculums about Allama Iqbal. They also agreed with the statement that Iqbal was one of those natural forces that shape the destiny of mankind. Government should promote Allama Iqbal as a character builder; strong policy making and implementation and should launch a campaign in favor of Allama Iqbal as a character builder. Private sector should be encouraged to participate in workshops about Allama Iqbal as a character builder.

    Perceptions of stakeholders about inclusive education

    This study explores perceptions of stakeholders about Inclusive Education which is growing trend in Pakistan and lot of work is still needed to be done in this regard. In literature review researcher discussed about the Inclusive education in developed countries, views of global communities about inclusive education, theorists views about inclusive education, Operationalization of inclusion, Models of Disability, Analysis to several dimensions of inclusive education and Policy and services for person with disabilities in Pakistan. On the basis of literature review a self constructed instrument was made, validity & reliability issues of instrument were ensured through pilot testing and expert opinion. 225 stakeholders of inclusive education of both sexes in public and private sector of Punjab province were the population of this study. Research was descriptive in its nature using quantitative design. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect the data. The date collected from Teachers, Heads, Executives, NGOs Representatives, Parents were analyzed. On the basis of data analysis, it was found that the majority of stakeholders have a positive attitude toward inclusion of children with disabilities. The Stakeholders of this study felt that policy and law should be made to include children with disabilities into the general education and also by providing sufficient resources and training. It will also contribute in field of educational leadership. The study will give good suggestions to policy makers to improve the current scene of inclusive education for further implementation of inclusive education.

    Perceptions of special education teachers about inclusive education in punjab

    Inclusive education is based on concept in which students with disabilities place and receive instruction in the mainstream set up through mainstream teachers. This study is going to explore the perception of special education teachers about inclusive education in the Punjab. The respondents (n=275) were the teachers from special schools in Punjab. A questionnaire was given to special teachers to assess their perception and knowledge about inclusive education. With the help of descriptive statistics as t-test, frequency and percentages the data was analyzed. The findings on the basis of analysis reveal that, general and special education teachers have considerably better perception about inclusive education. According to their perception with the help of inclusive education social interaction and inclusion of disabled students can be enhanced. The findings also reveals according to the perception of teachers students with disabilities learn social skills through their normal counterparts and thus inclusion plays a positive role in the socialization of students with disabilities. The results of the study are important for the school administrators, teachers, and other stakeholders who are directly and indirectly concerned with the implementation of inclusive education.

    Managing behavior of diversified students at primary level

    The study was an attempt to find out the different behavior problems of diversified students of primary level of private schools of Lahore city, and the role of parents and teachers in managing these behavior problems. Researchers concluded that behavior problems based on 5 dimensions namely: adaptability/stress management/inter personal/intra personal/general moods. Teachers, parents, school and our environment play an important role in the development of these above-mentioned domains. The nature of the research was qualitative and quantitative. Teaching method is the main tool from with teacher transfer knowledge and behaviors to his students, especially moral/ethical attributes but in our educational set up; we are still using traditional methods to manage behavior problems.For this purpose, the researcher first do interview of ten school teachers and after those findings we come to know what are the behavior problems? Than, the researcher established the two questionnaires, one for teachers and another for parents. To find out the authenticity the researcher conduct the pilot study. The results of the pilot study shows that these questions were easily understandable for teachers. So the questionnaires were finalized. Convenient sampling method was used for data collection, 180 teachers and 80 parents from the private schools of Lahore city. After the data collection, the researcher find out different behavior problems encountered by teachers such as: Moody, over confidence, not follow instructions, abusive language, non-serious attitude and call other students with bad names. So the teachers adopt different strategies to handle them such as: Give them extra attention, give them examples of PROPHET (PBUH), call their parents and do their counseling. Parents also encountered by different behavior problems such as: Not follow instructions, over confidence, abusive language, moody and non-serious attitude. So the parents adopt different strategies to handle them such as: Extra love/attention, give examples of PROPHET (PBUH), do their children’s counseling and sometimes contact with teachers.
