Item International accreditation of education departments in universities of Pakistan(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2016) Zunaira LiaquatThe research was about the opportunities and constraints for getting accreditation of education departments in universities of Pakistan. It was conducted to review and assess the quality of higher education and research higher education institutions in Pakistan, to assess status of accreditation of Pakistani universities and international recognition of their degrees in globalized market, to analyze the efforts being done for quality assurance, accreditation and internationalization of higher education in Pakistanand to suggest the recommendations for policies and procedures required to be adopted to meet the future global challenges. The central premise of this research was to ascertain the benefits of accreditation and internationalization and to discover the limitations, constraints and challenges present in the process. The research also aimed to know about what are the perceptions of the faculty of education departments about the opportunities that are linked with quality assurance and national and international accreditation. The main focus was on how higher education institutions and governments can play their role as per international standards. In this study the research paradigm was qualitative directed content analysis which deductive in nature. The questionnaire was built with open-ended questions so that the participants have freedom to respond in their own words. Survey was conducted independently with faculty members of each university. For this purpose, sixteen universities were selected as the sample from four divisions out of nine divisions of Punjab along with one federal area such as Islamabad. The study concludes that the higher education in Pakistanis far behind the international standards. Many limitations and weaknesses were identified in the overall education system, however the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistanhas also developed a manual comprising procedures and guidelines for quality assurance and its enhancement. The study also identifies the certain gaps in the coordination of universities with the councils and policy makers and lack of accountability which make the process of quality very slow. The study recommends that there is an urgent need of some serious, efficient and effective efforts on part of students, universities, faculty member administrative agencies and authorities regulators and the government to redesign the whole education system to compete in the international higher education market.
