Item Effects of electronic media on the development of Adaptive behavior in children with Mental retardation(University of Management and Technology Lahore, 2015) Ijaz, MaimonaThis study is specifically concerned with the effects of electronic media on the development of adaptive behavior in children with mental retardation. The objectives of the study are for identification of the most common type of electronic media among children with MR, number of hours spend by the MR children on electronic media, influence of electronic media on children’s adaptive behavior.It was a descriptive study. The population of the study includes the students of 5 schools of children with mental retardation in Lahore city. From the population the total sample consisted of 161 students were drawn. The instrument was developed on the basis of the hypothetical framework by the researcher herself, and translated in Urdu.Cronbach’s Alpha value of the instrument was .97 which means that the instrument was reliable. It was concluded on the basis of research that the TV and video game are most common types of electronic media among MRC and cartoon are watched by most of MRC than any other programs.The results also show Doraemonis the most watched cartoons on the TV by the children and most of MRC play Car Racing video games. It is concluded that most of the MRC watch TV, watch cartoons and play video games for one to two hours. The study further indicates that there is a significant difference in the mean values of adaptive behavior and TV programs watch by MRC. (df = 2, F = 7.223, Sig. = .001).As we find in this study that the most common type of electronic media access by the MRC is TV(99.4%) so it has an effect on the adaptive behavior of the MRC.
