Item THE ETHICAL DILEMMA OF BEGGARY IN PAKISTAN - A STUDY BASED IN LAHORE, PAKISTAN(UMT, Lahore, 2023) Sana Amir BajwaBeggary is one of the significant and institutionalized problem escalating in Pakistan. It has become a universal and a serious phenomenon that is breeding other societal ills including violence, criminal activity, theft, and poor people's repression. Begging is the act of asking someone for a favor—often a financial gift—without expecting anything in return. Many people are compelled to turn to immoral and illegal means of making a living due to continued inflation and multi-dimensional poverty in Pakistan, and consequently, beggary is now a flourishing business in the country. Beggary is typically regarded as one of the most socially destructive pests that wreak havoc and detract from the neighborhood's overall social appeal. It has become a profession, and the further we support this despicable behavior, the more beggars there will be. Governments and interested parties do not have the most recent information on this problem and the elements that contribute to it, which has made efforts to address the problem ineffective. Due to this lack of awareness, efforts are warranted to address the manifestations of beggary rather than the underlying reasons of this issue. To determine the underlying causes of beggary, its effects, and to gauge the government's efforts to address this social issue, this study used Thematic Analysis and qualitative secondary research as a methodology. Every developing nation experiences the complex dynamics of beggary, and while they all struggle with the problem, they will only be able to eradicate it if they pinpoint the causes and enact legislation with an eye towards long-term growth. According to this research, the presence and proliferation of beggary in Pakistan can be viewed as a manifestation of governmental shortcomings, evidenced by the current political, economic, and social circumstances. Instead of establishing a strategy that is based on reacting to events, it is recommended to develop a policy that focuses on its prevention.Item Impact of Socio-Economic Determinants on rural Poverty; Evidence from the South Punjab Pakistan(UMT, Lahore, 2023) MUHAMMAD MOHSIN RAZAThis thesis examines the impact of socio-economic determents on rural poverty in the South Punjab region of Pakistan. The study aims to provide evidence-based insights into the effectiveness of poverty strategies and inform future policy decisions aimed at reducing poverty and promoting socio-economic development in the region. Using a quantitative research design, individual households are analysed as the unit of analysis. A survey instrument with a five-point Likert scale is employed to collect data on key variables related to poverty and socio-economic development. Descriptive and inferential statistics, including correlation and regression analyses, are used to analyse the data. The results of the study highlight the effectiveness of poverty strategies in South Punjab. Microfinance, vocational training, and social safety net programs are identified as the most impactful strategies. It also recommends greater investment in education, healthcare, and infrastructure to improve poverty efforts in the region. The survey was distributed both in person and online to professionals in five different fields using a quota sampling technique — out of 385 surveys received, 376 valid responses were analyzed after confirming the survey's reliability through a pre-test. Descriptive and regression analysis performed via SPSS validate all three hypotheses; indicating government corruption and political instability have negative relationships with public trust in government while transparency positively impact public trust levels. These results point strongly towards implementing robust anti-corruption mechanisms, reforms to promote political stability coupled with increased transparency as sure ways to increase citizens' trust.Item SUSTAINABLE URBANIZATION WITH RENEWABLE ENERGY AND LOCAL EMPOWERMENT IN PUNJAB, PAKISTAN(UMT, Lahore, 2023) Khizar HayatUrbanization is swelling up cities and causing a continuous hike in the demand of electricity to meet the development needs. This study challenges the existing highly centralized and the fossil-fuel dependent power system of Pakistan and investigates whether it is necessary to harness the local renewables in Punjab in order to meet the energy challenges posed by the rapidly surging urban Population. Punjab with its 110 million people and 36.7 % rate of urbanization is the most populous and highly urbanized province of Pakistan. It consumes 65 % of the total electricity supplied by the national grid, which receives 67% of all its power from the non-renewable thermal and nuclear sources. This research builds on the theoretical concepts propagated by the sustainability framework, the energy transition theory and the administrative principle of subsidiarity and proposes energy transition to the renewables (ETR), the engagement of local communities (ELC) in smaller power initiatives and the introduction of local empowerment in energy provision (LEEP) as workable solutions to make the urbanization sustainable in Punjab. The Likert scale survey technique was employed to fetch responses from 480 domestic electricity consumers living in 37 cities of Punjab. The data was subjected to multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS. The output values confirmed that the ETR and LEEP are significant predictors to study variance in sustainable urbanization (SU), which is also found to have a positive association with the income of the subjects. The research promises to provide a new direction to the urban planners, energy managers and the policy makers with the suggestion to devolve the sectoral planning of energy sector to the districts in order to make rising urbanization sustainable in PunjabItem Safe City Authority Role in the Prevention and Detection of Crime Assessment of Lahore City(UMT, Lahore, 2023) Saif UllahThis study intended to analyze the "Lahore Safe City Project has played positively in the Safety of the public and prevention of Crimes”. A quantitative design was adopted for the study. Data was collected from the participants of police officers and civilians in this research. Primary data was used in this study. Primary data was collected through a questionnaire. A convenience sampling technique used for the collection of primary data. Explanatory and content analysis approaches used in this research. Inferential statistics (Correlation, Regression) were used for data analysis. The findings of this study showed a little effect in the Lahore safe city project stress and prevention of crimes of the Lahore police. Demographic variables impact is not in the scope of the study because this study is evaluating the PSCA impact on crime instead of focusing on the causes of crime. It is proposed that a study may be conducted at other Police departments with change over time by using a qualitative approach to investigate the effects of the Lahore safe city project stress and prevention of Crimes.
