In Pakistani context, this phenomenon has been rarely studied. The aim of the study was to explore the evil eye belief practices among Saraiki mothers in a village in Punjab, Pakistan. Saraiki mothers of Punjab believe in the evil eye phenomenon and have perceptions about its causes and effects. They adopt several types of protective and remedial practices to ward off the evil eye. This study investigates the perceived causes and effects of the evil eye and protective and remedial practices. Using qualitative interviews as primary research method, the researcher approached ten (educated & uneducated) mothers in the village and conducted in-depth interviews. The researcher conducted qualitative content analysis. Themes were emerged directly from the data that produced the interpretation of the finding. People religiously believe in the evil eye and its harmful effects. They relate it with a feeling of envy that intentionally or unintentionally trigger harmful wishes. Besides other folk remedies, Islamic amulets (tawiz) and incantations (dam/ ruqya) are popular religious remedies. The study concludes the religious basis of the evil eye beliefs and religious and folk remedial practices that provide a magico-religious healing framework initiated by a magico-religious perception of the belief.Item THE PERCEPTION OF FEARS AND EXCITEMENTS AMONG NEW UNDERGRADUATE FEMALE STUDENTS(UMT.lahore, 2015) TAIBA JAVAIDThe study attempts to explore the perceptions of fear and excitement among new female student enrolled in their first undergraduate program in a university. Due to having power deficiency, residential and industrial areas are getting excessive interruption of gas and electricity that creates worst circumstance for the citizens. The progress and prosperity of economic circuit is heavily depends on the energy sector and due to having fierce shortage of electricity and gas towards the industrial zones, the working class of factories is becoming protuberant victim of thIs whole scenario. The purpose of conducting this research was to examine and co-relate the impact of energy crises with social, economic and psychological well-being of factory workers. Mixed research method was used to analyze the results through in-depth interview and five-lickert questionnaires, target population of this study was two rice factories of Mandi Faz Abad, from where twenty factory workers were selected for qualitative section through judgmental sampling technique and fifty factory workers were selected for quantitative section with the courtesy of convenient sampling technique. It ICT has already changed human life in different stages .it connects the world with students, Academicians, comparison between public and private sectors. The study focuses the effects of ICT’s in work life of academicians. It creates flexibility to work outside of workplace and working hours. Interviews have been conducted with teachers of university of Punjab and Lahore University of management sciences. We choose 11 respondent of LUMS University and every student gave a logical opinion about ICT. And we choose 7 respondents from Punjab university every student gave her productive opinion that how ICT’s create conflict in personal and professional life. It categorizes as publics and private sector to analyze the overall trend which has been further divided into two parts. At one it deals with work/life balance and at another end it portrays the work/life conflicts.Item Understanding The Experiences Of Displaced People Of Naval Society.(UMT.lahore, 2018) HABIBA TAHIR; NAVEED SHAUKAThe impact of development induced displacement has been studied for three villages sher da-mayal , khurd and kang gotta syeda by taking a sample size of 15. Education and health facilities have been identified as major persuading factors compelling people to displace from the place of origin whereas psychological, cultural and traditional practices are the factors that contribute most towards keeping people from displacing to other areas. Educated and skilled people have relatively better opportunities to settle down in urban, sub-urban areas and cities and they seem to be satisfied with their earnings and work. Uneducated people running small businesses such as grocery shops, tuck shop, general stores etc after displacement also consider themselves well off and are satisfied at the place where they were displaced. This research looks primarily at Pakistani dramas and decides that certain stereotypes and certain attributes that paint the picture of what a wife should be as a good wife are highlighted and celebrated. The purpose of this research is to highlight how the Pakistani dramas are normalizing the violence over women. Attributes, which may not be necessarily, negative, they are depicted as such, since they challenge patriarchal sanctity.
