Item Media portrayal of stereotypes(UMT Lahore, 2009) SADAF AZEEMThe present study explores media portrayal of gender stereotypes. The study scrutinizes that how media through language and images portray stereotypes about gender. The study highlights the role of media in depicting males and females as different and unequal from each other. It particularly focuses on how media portrays females through advertisements. Content analysis of electronic advertisements was done to answer the research questions ((a) whether or not media’s content of language portrays stereotypes? (b) Do media portray stereotypes through images?). A sample of advertisements of 50 products of Procter & Gamble, Lever & Brothers, and Cellular companies which were advertised by the media was examined. For the content analysis a Performa was adapted which was proposed by Saez, Morales and Lisbona (2008). A questionnaire was also used for data collection, filled by 30 students of University of Mangement and Technology. In this way through content analysis and questionnaire, data (qualitative and quantitative) were collected. Percentages and frequencies of the data were taken and data were interpreted in tabular and graphical form. Results extracted from content analysis and questionnaire showed that media contents of language and images portray stereotypes. Results have shown that media portrayal of males and females do not give equal picture of gender rather gives biased and stereotypical picture of gender. Moreover, results have also shown that media, through advertisements, particularly target females. Media do not portray females equal to males and their image is distorted by the media.Item Compounding in English(UMT Lahore, 2013) Miss Anwar-MahjabeenThis study examines the Process of Compounding in English. The Purpose of the study is to explore the word formation processes of compounds, their forms, classifications, different types, lexical categories, the structures, semantic relationships, and the hyphenation rules. The work is presented in five chapters as follows; the first chapter deals with the introduction of the study, statement of the problems, scope of the study, significance of the study, basic assumptions and definition of operational terms. The second chapter is presented in the review of the related literature that is work on English compounds, which has been carried out by various researchers and scholars, the third chapter deals with research methodology, research design (content analysis), and procedure, population and time horizon. Chapter fourth presents the analysis of the data, and the last fifth chapter presents findings and conclusion.Item Teaching English Language through Literature(UMT Lahore, 2017) Tehreen ShaukatItem Analysis of Psycholinguistic Processes of the Followers’ Comments on the Posts of Pakistani Celebrities on Instagram(UMT Lahore, 2022) Zunaira YounasThis research is a psycholinguistic analysis of the comments of the followers on the posts of Pakistani celebrities on Instagram. The research predominantly includes Psycholinguistic analysis on the usage of pronouns and emotional states with the help of language, how much positive or negative emotions are used through language and how these emotions become a reason of anxiety or depression. The research design includes quantitative approach in which Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) has been used to analyze the Linguistic Categories and Psychological Processes on the selected comments on the posts of Pakistani celebrities on Instagram. The linguistic categories have particularly focused on the pronouns and psychological process focuses on the emotional state of followers on the celebrities post through LIWC-2022. This research includes 84 posts which have been taken from online sources named as "Galaxy Lollywood", "Express tribune life and style", and "Diva Magazine Pakistan”. The results show the extensive usage of third person pronouns and high percentile of negative emotions as compared to positive emotions.
