Item An investigation of the relationship between governance, decision making and school effectiveness(UMT.Lahore, 2011) Sajida MukhtarThe purpose of this study was to find the relationship between governance, decision-making and particular indicators of school effectiveness, connected with parental involvement, professional development of teachers, planning, budgeting, facilities, resources and student outcomes. A total of thirty high schools, in the city area of Lahore, representing different governance procedures, were taken as sample, utilizing quantitative and qualitative approaches including questionnaire, semi-structured interview and document review, focussng on the principals, teachers, parents and the students.The results indicated similar approaches and constraints on governance/decision-making across the thirty schools. No apparent relationship between type of governance and school effectiveness was established. Variety of governance structures could not seem to have any major impact on different school effectiveness indicators.Ccooperative governance seems to have a successful effect, which may continue for the flourishment of educatin sector and the betterment of the education department. A clear finding, however, is that a principal is the core of a school management, not only for his structural and hierarchical role but for the way he/she administers the school governance keeping a close eye on each and every aspect of his responsibilities so that his/her institution could come up with the best results both academic and cocurricular, congenial and harmonious environment and a high profile repute among the masses of atleast the vicinity.The principals’ roles were thus, critical in the governance of their educational institutions, perceiving and enacting diligently in the decision-making, taking care of the functions of other stakeholders, at the same time.The findings of this study, as of other studies, were inconclusive on relationships between other structural governance factors and school effectiveness indicators, and suggest that the Principal's impact on such indicators, as student outcomes, may be significant but indirect. The study findings do, however, support other findings on the importance of the Principal's role - the perception of those and the roles of others related to it, their personal and professional capabilities, and the extent to which they lead and involve others collaboratively in school governance and decision-making.Item An analytical study of governance strategies at secondary school level in Pakistan(2011) Sajida Mukhtar; Khalid Rashid; Ijaz Ahmad TatlahThis article analyzes and assesses the current status of governance strategies at secondary school level and examines emerging trends. While we commonly accept that the purpose of schools properly focuses on teaching and learning, the focus of control over these functions has traditionally resided far from the school-site level of the professionals. This study examines the way teachers and principals in a representative sample. The degree of competition among professions is affected by the nature of institutional and occupational differentiation and by particular cultural and historical forces in different societies. Teachers and administrators typically adhere to divergent views of governance. Others argue that conflict between administrators and teachers is not inevitable, and Accountability provides the school with an opportunity to collect information about its performance and enter into a debate with its community about the results of its exercise. show institutional variation in the degree of conflict between the perceptions and preferences of teachers and principals in secondary school. Design/methodology/approach; The discussion concentrates on structure, access, quality, funding patterns, private enterprise, and future prospects of higher education. It is argued that if quality does not match quantity, and the higher education sector fails to bring out enlightened, highly skilled, trained, motivated and ethically committed individuals, the countries cannot meet any of its development objectives. Findings; to attract the brightest students towards social sciences in different paradigms and research, funds have to be allocated for the higher education sector in the country. These emerging scenarios have given birth to some new issues.Item THE ROLE OF HEAD TEACHERS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CURRICULUM AT SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVEL(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Sajida MukhtarThis correlational research was conducted in a positivist paradigm to examine role in successful curriculum implementation at secondary schools. The role has been checked in the context of school heads to implement the curriculum. Though school heads supervision plays a significant role in the curriculum implementation, contribution is yet more substantial who are the chief actors and primary deliverers of the curriculum content. The research purpose was to determine the interactive-effect of school heads teaching style (traditional Vs. progressive) of school teachers on curriculum implementation. Multistage sampling was used to draw a sample from a large and diverse population. s were collected from 621 teachers and 36 school principals from six districts of Punjab. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to determine the interactive effect of leadership style and strategies of school principals, the teaching style of teachers, and. Content analysis was used with Structure equation models produced two independent models of curriculum implementation success.
