Item Coal consumption: an alternate energy resource to fuel economic growth in Pakistan(Munich Personal RePEc Archive, 2014) Muhammad Shahid Hassan; Saqlain Latif Satti; Haider Mahmood; Muhammad ShahbazThis study is an attempt to revisit the causal relationship between coal consumption and economic growth in case of Pakistan. The present study covers the period of 1974-2010. The direction of causality between the variable is investigated by applying the VECM Granger causality approach. Our findings have exposed that there exists bidirectional Granger causality between economic growth and coal consumption. The Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) and Cumulative Sum of Square (CUSUMSQ) diagrams have not found any structural instability over the period of 1974-2010.Item Effects of quality assurance measures on student performance in technical colleges(University of Management and Technolog, 2017) Muhammad ShahbazAcademic sector is under research in different areas to improve the student academic performance because the better academic performance of the students provides the base to all sectors to excel in the future. The technological development more increases the importance of the TVET (Technical Vocational Education and Training) to meet the requirement of the fast pace technological development in the society. The technical colleges have a prime responsibility to provide the technical education. Therefore it is important to improve the student academic performance in the technical colleges to provide the best skills workforce to the industries. This research analyzes the application of the quality assurance measures in the technical colleges and evaluates their impact on the student performance. This study is based on the quantitative research methodology. The questionnaire is developed on TEVTA (Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority) academic audit manual items and 4 Public technical colleges and 4 private colleges of Lahore are selected to collect the data. The data is collected from teacher's total number of 60 respondents from selected 8 colleges. The regression analysis is performed in this study to analyze the impact of the quality assurance measures on the student performance in technical colleges. The quality assurance is independent variable and student performance is dependent variable in this study. These findings are in-line with the existing research that quality assurance positively impacts the performanceItem Hardware implementation & control of single phase dc-dc & dc-ac inverter with improved power quality(UMT.Lahore, 2016) Muhammad Shahbaz; Muhammad Muddassir; Muhammad Fahad Nazir; Muhammad Usman KhalidThis thesis has two major purposes: (1) to design improved quality DC-DC converter and DC-AC inverter (2) to demonstrate their simulation of related software (Multisim, Proteus etc.) for a renewable energy systems. Converters and inverter acts as a bridge for getting electrical energy from Photo voltaic systems. DC-DC converters are electronic devices that are used to convert dc voltage from one level to another. While Inverter are devices used to convert Dc power into Ac. Data for this study were gathered from different resources with the help of research papers. For boosting dc voltage from one level to other boost converter was used. This thesis is proposed to with provide a method of boosting dc voltage from 5 Volts to 14 Volts, by using a boost converter designed specifically for this task. Then this 12V DC is converted into same level Ac voltage using inverter. After that centered taped transformer increases 12V AC into 220V AC. But at the same time power quality is also improved by LC filter In conclusion, all aims, tests and data have been documented within this report. Results of simulation proved that the boost converter will increase 5 volts to 14 volts with 92% power conversion efficiency. Furthermore, Ac voltage obtained is obtained as an output of inverter.Item The impact of foreign direct investment on stock market development(2013) Muhammad Shahbaz; Hooi Hooi Lean; Rukhsana KalimDeveloping countries are witnessing changes in the composition of capital flows in their economies due to the expansion and integration of the world equity market. This paper investigates the impact of foreign direct investment on the stock market development in Pakistan. The key interest revolves around the complementary or substitution role of foreign direct investment to the development of stock market. ARDL bounds testing approach to cointegration and ECM are employed for the analysis. Our results support the complementary role of foreign direct investment to the stock market development in Pakistan. Moreover, domestic savings, income and inflation are the other macroeconomic variables that affect the development of stock market in Pakistan.Item Is inflation regressive or progressive? Long run & short run evidence from Pakistan(International Journal of Management Studies, 2010) Muhammad Shahbaz; Abu N. M. Wahid; Rukhsana KalimThe present paper investigates an answer to a key question “is inflation regressive or progressive?” by utilizing time series data from 1971 up to 2005 with reference to Pakistan. The main focus of the study is on the infl ationinequality puzzle but other control variables are also included in the model that aff ect income distribution. We have utilized the most advanced technique FMOLS (Fully-Modifi ed Ordinary Least Square) for long run and ECM (Error Correction Model) for short run dynamics. Our fi ndings suggest that infl ation is progressive in the case of Pakistan but with low magnitude. There is also a prevalence of a U-shaped relationship between infl ation and income inequality in non-linear or non-monotonic phenomenon, but it is insignifi cant. Per capita income deteriorates income distribution, and seems to provide gains to non-poor individuals in the economy. Remitt ances as share of GDP, and human capital, also appear to increase income inequality in both periods but large size of the government seems to worsen income distribution in the long run. International trade and income inequality are positively correlated that confi rms the existence of Leontief paradox in Pakistan not only in short run, but also in long run. Financial development declines income inequality insignifi cantly. Inverted U-shaped curve (Lafer-Curve) indicates an association of trade and income inequality in non-linear fashion insignifi cantly. This eff ort provides some new insights for policy makers and development planners in Pakistan.Item Remittances and poverty nexus: evidence from Pakistan(International Research Journal of Finance and Economics, 2009) Rukhsana Kalim; Muhammad ShahbazRemittances play a very important role in eliminating poverty of a nation. Remittances it is believed increase the money supply and stimulate demand for consumption and investment. The basic objective of the present paper is to explore the various factors affecting poverty with particular emphasis on the relationship between poverty and foreign remittances. It is hypothesized that remittances, trade openness, GDP growth, inflation, urbanization and tax rates are the possible variables affecting poverty. The remittances-poverty nexus is tested both for the short-run as well as for the long-run. Fully modified ordinary least square (FMOL) technique is used for establishing short-run and long-run relationship between poverty and its determinants. The period selected is from 1973-2006. Results support hypothesis that remittances bring a decline in poverty.
