    Parental rejection and psychological adjustment among adolescents. A cross cultural study

    This study examines parental rejection and psychological adjustment among adolescents. It is a cross cultural study of two diverse groups. The sample of the study consisted of Pakistani boys (n=50) living in Saudi Arabia and boys (n=50) live in Pakistan with the age range 13-17. Mostly adolescents belonged to middle and upper-middle in Saudi Arabia and upper-middle and upper socioeconomic class in Pakistan. The tests used in this research are Pearson’s correlations, regression, independent sample t-test Alpha coefficients, Mean and Standard Deviation. Results revealed that children living in Saudi Arabia perceive their parents especially to their fathers more rejected as compare to the children living in the Pakistan. The most significant predictor of parental rejection was parental rejection perceived by fathers. While psychological adjustment did not significantly predict. Results of this research show those adolescents of Pakistan recognize their parents as compliant as well as to self-report fairly positive psychological adjustment. In addition, the adolescents tend to see their mothers and fathers as being almost equal in mutual status and power. However, even though perceived or recognized acceptance by parents is not considerably linked with the adjustment of males and females psychologically, parental power nor status is associated with the youth’s adjustment. Furthermore implications and suggestions are also discussed in the end.
