Financial Distress and Corporate Governance (Evidence from Pakistan)
(University of Management & Technology, 2018) Ahmed, Waqas
The present study is conducted to determine the relationship between corporate governance and financial distress. The objective of this study is to analyze whether corporate governance variables can predict financial distress, and to explore relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and financial distress for Pakistani listed companies. This study is descriptive in nature and random sampling is used to determine the relationship between corporate governance mechanism and financial distress. Population consisted of all firms registered on PSE and data is collected from 2011 to 2016. Sample consisted of 93 financially distressed firms and EPS is used as proxy for financially distressed firms. Those firms whose EPS is decreasing during given years are considered as financially distressed firms. Data is analyzed by using statistical methods, as data in present study is panel in nature, so fixed & random model is also applied to extract the relationship between dependent and independent variable. Results of this study show that board size of financially distressed firms was large with less independent directors. Firms hold less number of boards of directors meetings. It is also found in this study that financially distressed firms debt ratio was 46% and some firms are also following CEO duality.

    Hostel management system
(University of Management and Technolog, 2016) Rauf Khan, Shawanah; Ahmed, Waqas; Sikander, Usama; Saeed, Murat Ul Ain
Our team has developed an Online Hostel Management System for UMT hostels. Current management is still using file system. We plan to bring it online with additional useful features for students as well. We not only want to help staff to manage it efficiently but also let the student facilitate as much as possible. This system will provide a bridge between the university and overseas/ foreign students. The university’s hostels are one of its strengths which must be utilized more efficiently. The basic need of overseas students is hostel. If we will try to provide them with maximum ease, it will result into increase in number of students. Students will be able to get all information they need regarding UMT hostel. They will be able to perform complete procedure without needing to travel whereas; wardens will have a synchronized and efficient system in hand to keep the track of every little detail about students.

Intelligent Solar Panel Tracking System with Sinewave Inverter
(University of Management and Technology, 2013) Rashid, Nabeel; Ahmed, Waqas; Mustaqeem, Muhammad
Solar energy is rapidly gaining notoriety as an important means of expanding renewable energy resources. Our project includes the design and construction of a microcontroller-based solar panel tracking system and Pure Sinusoidal Inverter. The tracking system computes the position of the sun from available data input by user i.e. (date, month, year and time) and controls the movement of a solar panel so that radiation of the sun comes normally to the surface of the solar panel. The main advantage of the system is that it is programmed, so that it could rotate solar panel at a pre-determined angle and at predetermined periods by using short pulses without using sensors. The developed-tracking system tracks the sun both in the azimuth as well as in the elevation plane. The operation of the experimental model of the device is based on a DC motor intelligently controlled by a dedicated drive unit that moves a PV panel according to the yearly calendar stored in microcontroller. This report alsofocuses on DC to AC power inverter, which aimto efficiently transform a DC source to a high voltage AC source. An inverter circuit by using sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) switching schemes is developed to run AC utilities. DC is one type of energy that is found in solar panels and can be stored in batteries for usage in future. Semiconductor device, Metal Oxide Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET) is used as switch in full bridge (H-Bridge) inverter configuration using Unipolar voltage switching. Driver circuit for MOSFET is also very important as it is used to interface between control circuits (Low voltage part) and inverter (High voltage part). PIC microcontroller chip is used to generate modulating signals. At the end of this project, the SPWM output signal is developed from the Microcontroller and applied to the MOSFET driver and the inverter. The method to complete the desires outcome would be to first convert the low voltage DC to AC by using pulse width modulation, and then use a transformer to boost the voltage to 220 volts to drive the AC load.

    School Management System
(University of Management and Technology, 2013) Ahmed, Waqas
The school is currently using file system, but this file system is facing problems in handling data which is increasing day-by-day. It takes lengthy development time and causes data redundancy and inconsistency. The basic purpose of project is to design a solution that is cost effective, efficient, robust and secure. I am designing a Desktop base project named as “School Management System”. This project will fulfill the minimum needs of any School. This project will help the principal and working staff to keep eye on student management and enrollment, class information management, teacher management, attendance control and reporting at the same time just by one click.
