    PEOPLE AND DEMOCRATIC SPACE Identifying a safe democratic space for people to express their views in the urban fabric of Lahore

    Lahore is swelling and people are migrating into it with many numbers because they know it’s the city which can provide them opportunities and help them to grow financially, socially and politically as it’s their democratic right to. But sometime when social, political, economic growth obstruct by some political and social, economic forces they protest against them, for this People start using some particular spaces within the city which become the nodes and junction for people gathering which disturbing the urban infrastructure. Occupying these landmarks for protests creates lots of security concerns for the buildings in the surroundings because these spaces are crucial and sensitive part of the Lahore. It disturbs the everyday user of the vicinity. They are doing this because they think by blocking roads and making hurdles for public can attract media houses which can take their concerns to the policymakers but unfortunately this never happens. But some time it creates threat for the safety of people life as well as for the important building around. If there is a confined public space where the people can be controlled and could contain in ethical surveillance it can reduce the chances of risks and safety of the people. Therefore, I am addressing strategic planning of Lahore that it should provide them a safe democratic space with a meticulously design policies where they can express their views without any restrictions. Which can be called as “democratic Spaces”?
