This gave fuel to a series of debates in both political, social, and educational settings on the rights of transgenders. Furthermore, the presence of transgenders is increasingly becoming more prominent in the workforce and educational institutions and media. It is therefore imperative to gauge the attitudes of the youth of Pakistan towards transgenders as the youth is the future policy makers, government, decision makers and influencers etc. In the current study attitudes towards transgenders and the factors that influence was studied in Muslim(n=109) and Christian(n=100) university students (N=209). The results of this study indicate that increased contact with transgenders has a positive correlation with attitudes towards transgenders. Religiosity and traditional gender role beliefs have a negative correlation with attitudes transgenders. Similar correlations were found in the Muslim participants and Christian participants however religiosity and attitudes towards transgenders had no significant correlation for the Christian students. Male university students have more traditional gender role beliefs and negative attitudes towards transgenders as compared to female university students. However no significant gender difference was found in religiosity and contact. Similar gender differences were found among the Muslim and Christian participants. However no religious differences were found among the university students. Gender, education, contact, interpersonal relationship with transgenders, religiosity and gender role beliefs were found to be predictors of attitudes towards transgenders. Religiosity was found to partially moderate the relationship between gender role beliefs and attitudes towards transgenders. The results of the study were discussed in accordance with the sociocultural context of Pakistan.
