Item Trade opportunities among Pakistan and East African Countries(UMT, Lahore, 2001) Abdirisak Ahmed MohamedThis project sheds light on an area of great importance to both Pakistan and the East African countries. Due to the time factor and the difficulty in obtaining the data, this project couldn't be written in a detail beyond this extent. Pakistan in comparison with these countries is considered to be more developed, therefore the trade opportunities that Pakistan can have with these countries may concentrate on the following areas: Textiles, leather products, processed food, beverages, garments, paper products, sports goods. Surgical instruments, pharmaceuticals. Construction materials, rice, small industry and agricultural machineries, electrical appliances, electronics and others. Pakistan has already trade relations with some of these countries but surprisingly it seems that both Pakistan and the East African countries are not aware of the fact that engaging in a wider trade relation than the one existing today will benefit them and thus save a large amount of foreign exchange. The main trade partners with the East Afncan countries include USA, European countries, Japan, China, Malaysia, Brazil and others. The goods imported from Pakistan will be cheaper as compared to those imported from the traditional competitors because Pakistan has a cheaper manpower; secondly Pakistan is geographically closer to the East African countries. If Pakistan intensifies its Trade relations with these countries there's a possibility that its products will make their way in to the Central Africa, this may further create another opportunity for the Pakistani business community. On the other hand, the East African countries relatively have less export to offer Pakistan but they can indirectly benefit by opting to import cheaper products from Pakistan. This project will help the Pakistani, the East African business communities and every other foreign willing to obtain information concerning the trade opportunities among
