Gender Diversity in Knowledge Exchange Networks of R&D teams A Feminist Perspective

Despite plethora of studies signifying gender diversity in teams, women still represent a minority when it comes to participation in male dominated organizations. The invisibility of women increases especially in knowledge intensive, technical and research based domains where men dominate whereas women are confined to ‗female friendly‘ professions like medicine and academia. This exclusion and marginalization of women is also evident in knowledge management literature that is predominantly ‗gender-blind‘ and disregards the influence of gender in knowledge creation and exchange processes. This thesis contributes to the body of knowledge management literature by exploring knowledge exchange networks and the influence of gender diversity through a feminist lens. By considering gender an important component of the knowledge creation it presents an indigenous conceptualization of gendered knowledge creation process in male dominated R & D sector.
