Item Dark triad traits and prosocial behavior among young adults(UMT Lahore, 2020) Hafiza Hamna Batool; Haya Ahmed; Nimra NaeemThis study was conducted to explore the relationship between dark triad traits consisting of three personality traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy) and prosocial behavior which aims at benefiting and helping others and among young adults. The sample (N=188 with age range 18-25 (M=22.15, SD= 1.82) years) was drawn from various public and private universities of Lahore. Dirty Dozen Jones and Paulhus, (2011) scale was used to measure the dark triad traits and prosocial behavior was measured by Prosocial Tendency Measure Carlo & Randall (2002) (evaluating public, emotional, dire, compliant, anonymous and altruistic). We hypothesized a negative relationship between dark triad personality traits and prosocial tendencies. Stepwise multivariate regression analysis showed narcissism to be a significantly positive predictor of public prosocial behaviour. Machiavellianism was a significant positive predictor of compliant prosocial behaviour. Psychopathy was a negative predictor of anonymous prosocial behaviour. This research will assist individuals in recognizing the parameters in the development of personality traits of the dark triad. Preventive techniques may also be implemented by doing so. It may also help to understand the possible course of development of the dark triad characteristics, which may potentially contribute to prosocial behaviour. The research can be used in general for awareness and a greater understanding of human personality.
