Narcissism, social competence and pro-sociality in university students

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationship between narcissism social competence and pro-sociality in university students. The sample consisted of 200 psychology students. The data obtained through non-probability purposive sampling technique. Assessment measures used in the study included Narcissism Personality Inventory (NPI-16) Social Competence Scale for Adolescent and Helping Attitude Scale (HAS) along with demographic form. The result showed that narcissism is negatively associated with pro-sociality. However, it is positively significant with Social Initiative sub-scale of social competence. The result of multi linear regression showed that the overall variance was 11.7% F (1, 19) =26.23, significant sign .000, whereas narcissism was found to be significant and positive predictor of social competence.
