“LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE GOVERNANCE A CASE OF PUNJAB SAFE CITY AUTHORITY” (2016-2022)

The efficiency of traffic police in Lahore is increasing and contributing to the overall public safety. Facilitating general public and regulating law and order are the two main responsibilities Police department. One of the major organs of Police department is the Traffic Police, the primary function of which is to ensure safety and security of people on roads. The study was conducted in Lahore, the capital city of Punjab Pakistan, to explore the effectiveness and efficiency of the Lahore Traffic Police through analyzing its coordination with Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA). Questionnaire was designed to collect data, regarding legal, functional, collaborative and technical aspects, from the staff of both the authorities. The study revealed that the coordination between the two authorities has allowed traffic police to deal with road accidents in timely and sensitive manner, resulting in traffic police becoming more responsive. The study will contribute to the practical understanding of the use of new technology for improving governance, collaborative efforts for the implementation of traffic rules and required policies to increase efficiency of law-and-order authorities.
