Item Determination of aspirin in pharmaceutical preparations by computational quantification using well method(UMT, Lhr, 2021) AIMEN YOUSAFAspirin is a famous drug commonly known for its anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic activity and it belongs to the salicylate family. A unique, simple, inexpensive, and rapid method has been developed for the determination of aspirin in pharmaceutical formulations by computational quantification using well method. Aspirin was analyzed spectrophotometrically as well as by digital image scanning densitometry, which was a proposed method based on computational quantification of photographic image of colored solutions in the wells of a white acrylic plate for the validation of the drug. The maximum absorbance of the analyte occurred at the wavelength of 530 nm. The concentration range of aspirin were 50-300 ppm resulted in linear calibration curve with the regression coefficient (R2=0.9908). The digital image scanning densitometry showed correlation among the concentrations of aspirin and optical color density of color spot, as aspirin forms violet complex with ferric chloride reagent. The same procedure was applied to pharmaceutical tablets for quantification and compared with standard method, also found unknown concentration of samples. The validation parameters accuracy and precision were measured along with the limit of quantification and limit of detection. The proposed method was equally valid for the determination of drug and gave satisfactory results. The adequate analytical method was applicable in pharmaceutical formulations and can be used for quantitative analysis of the drug in tablets.
