Exploring Student Perspectives on Women's Portrayal in Pakistani Dramas

Television wields a substantial influence on our daily lives, captivating a global viewership of over 5.36 billion individuals. People make perceptions about the characters and consider it real. This qualitative research explored the perception of students, male and female about the TV dramas and the image of women created by these dramas in the minds of the viewers This research employs a qualitative methodology with an interpretive approach. The investigation involved conducting in-depth interviews with 15 students, all had affiliations with the University of Management and Technology, a private academic institution. The sample is consisted of nine female students and six male students. Although participants expressed appreciation for the presence of resilient female characters, they concurrently recognized a perceptible chasm between these idealized portrayals and the real-world challenges encountered by women in Pakistan. Pertinent concerns were articulated regarding the perpetuation of regressive gender norms and the limited roles allocated to women in dramatic productions.
