Item Social comparison, peer pressure, risky financial behavior and psychosomatic symptoms in gen Z(UMT, Lahore, 2025) Abdul Samad; Ayesha Tariq; Muhammad Ali Shehzad; Tayyaba MaqboolThis study is aimed to investigate the relationship between social comparison, peer pressure, risky financial behavior, and psychosomatic symptoms. The population was Gen Z, age ranges between 13-28 (Dimock, 2019). A total of 300 participants (150 males & 150 females) were selected through purposive sampling technique. A correlational cross-sectional study design was conducted, and data were collected using the Social Comparison Scale (Allan and Gilbert, 1995), Peer Pressure Questionnaire (Saini, 2016), Risky Financial Behavior Scale (Zheng, 2013), and Psychosomatic Symptoms Scale (Vulić-Prtorić, 2021). Pearson correlation, regression, t-test, one-way Anova, mann whitney U-test and Kruskal-wallis H test analyses were run to test the hypothesis by using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Results indicated social comparison was positively associated with risky financial behavior, while both peer pressure and risky financial behavior were positively associated with psychosomatic symptoms. Additionally, peer pressure, gender, marital status and educational level significantly predicted psychosomatic symptoms. Males report higher peer pressure than females, while females report higher risky financial behavior and psychosomatic symptoms than males. These findings underscore the importance of addressing unhealthy social comparison, promoting responsible financial behaviors, and enhancing psychological well-being in Gen Z populations.
