Youth Engagement and Government of the People- A Case Study of the University Students in Lahore Research Project (2016-2020)

It is the responsibility of the government to provide opportunities for participation on all platforms and to keep the people involved in the matters of public governance. Pakistan is among the countries having more than half population of young people which makes the importance of youth engagement even more crucial for the development of the country. This study highlights the importance of youth engagement and focuses on subjects that need due consideration for promotion of youth engagement and political participation in the country. The method used for collection of data was through questionnaires and short interviews. Focusing on the variable of gender and socioeconomic status, the study explores the existing procedures and practices used for participation of people and studies the weaknesses of the system as well. Conceding the efficiency of existing procedures for participation, the study provides with first-hand discernments that are common among the young people regarding the issue of political participation in the country
