Item DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT IN PAKISTAN A CASE STUDY OF KARACHI FLOOD(UMT, Lahore, 2021) Amina LashariThe study aims to examine the process of institutionalizing disaster risk management in Pakistan. The original case was built on Pakistan's vulnerability to natural disasters, and represented a risk profile and flood support for Karachi. An attempt was made to study the historical development of institutional structure DRM. There is critical analysis of the new institutional framework. The study focused on the problems and gaps in the institutional structure. The method used in this descriptive study was research and analysis, using secondary sources. In August 2020, heavy rains created emergency in Karachi due to heavy rains. New areas were affected by the urban flooding including the Korangi, Karachi east, Karachi West and Malir. For allocation of budget based on urgent humanitarian needs, government-defined priorities and a rapid assessment of the DRM needs affected by monsoon floods. Disease outbreaks and natural disasters have been frequent, in recent decades with severe health and economic implications. Secondary sources include Pakistani disaster laws and policies, research literature and other stakeholder reports obtained from More than ten interviews with officials at the national and state levels were done as primary data, and nationwide periodicals and databases were examined. The Covid-19pandemic further complicated the situation in flood-hit Karachi. The study is a contribution to future institutional reforms at the national and regional levels to establish a proactive, efficient and effective institutional framework for disaster risk management in the country.
