Item Challenges faced by students with low vision in preparing for their public exams(UMT.Lahore, 2020) AFSHAN KHALIDStudents with low vision often faced problems during their academic careers. The main purpose of conducting this study was to identify the challenges faced by the students with low vision in preparing for their public exams. The issue under investigation was qualitative in its nature, and the multiple case study research design was employed. The population of the study was the students with low vision while studying in Lahore. 15 students (8 females and 7 males) with low vision from class 8 to class 12 were the sample of this study. The sample of this study was selected from three educational institutes of Lahore. The sample was selected by the researcher through purposeful sampling, utilizing a criterion sampling technique. The researcher carefully developed herself a semi-structured interview for data collection from students with low vision. After collecting the data, the researcher transcribed it carefully. The researcher used thematic analysis technique to analyze qualitative data. The findings of the study suggested that the majority of the respondents agreed on inaccessibility. The present study revealed that the majority of the students with low vision had no access to learning material. Learning material provides the assistance to these students in preparing their exams. It was also concluded that most of the respondents were not access to supportive services. These supportive services essential part of this group of people but findings of this study depict that students with low vision far away from supportive services. The government did not provide sufficient budget to the schools that are why they deprived of supportive services. It was concluded that inadequate policies and built environments create hindrances for students with low vision in preparing their exams. The majority of the respondents depend on others. They seek from others for the completion of their assignments and other assigned tasks. Due to the physical environment to some extent, they had mobility issues. The current study revealed that the most crucial barrier in the academics of students with low vision was financial resources. Most of the respondents noted that they could not be prepared for their exams in a better way because they cannot purchase assistive technologies and low vision aids. The majority of the respondents had no access to talking computers and large print. It was also concluded that the education of students with low vision as the shared responsibility of the home and the school. However, the majority of the respondents revealed that the inactive role of their parents—shared responsibility not fulfilled by the parents and school as well. To develop a high-quality learning environment, each school’s community members, teachers, support staff, and parents of students with low vision must work together in a consistent, coordinated, and corporative manner.It is hoped that the participant’s detailed description in this study provides guidance to school administration, policymakers, examiners, services providers, and parents as well.
