dc.description.abstractThis research paper aims to explain the multi-hazard and disaster prone areas of District Shigar, Gilgit Baltistan and presents a proposal to introduce better Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) systems. Findings of this research will help to find out the gap between relevant authorities and individuals in vulnerable places. This research paper is an empirical research, it’s an analysis of existing reports and available literature. Gilgit Baltistan and especially District Shigar is vulnerable to natural Hazards and there is a great requirement to study the multi-hazards majorly floods, landslides, and River erosion. In the past few years, Gilgit Baltistan became a vulnerable place just because of the absence of proper disaster risk management system. Failure of disaster risk management authorities in Pakistan caused a small-scale hazard and disaster resulting in massive destruction of assets of the masses and a large number of people getting affected by disaster and related incidents. Findings showed that there is no such disaster related plans, and there exists a lot of gap between community of vulnerable people and relevant authorities. Taking this into consideration, this paper presents a detailed academic/technical proposal for disaster risk management. This research paper will introduce the idea of promoting cooperation and better understanding related to disaster plan between people and relevant authorities in Pakistan. The paper also recommends certain approaches and policy implications to make the Disaster Risk Management authorities more effective
