dc.description.abstractThe potential of_radio as a tool of social development is being utilized throughout the globe, be it be the developing or developed world. It has a long history of penetration at grassroots through community radio in the westem world. In Asia, though community radio is comparatively a new arrival , but over the years, community radio broadcasting has found roots and is playing a vital role in the development of small communities' .In PAKISTAN, radio has long remained a state monopoly. After promulgation of PEMRA Ordinance 2002, the electronic media in private sector is emerging in a fast pace. Besides issuing a large niunber of licenses for FM RADIOs it is catering to the entertainment needs of the urban elites while community radio still remains a far cry in the country .With rampant illiteracy, unemployment, ignorance and multiple social and ethnic issues, the usage of radio as an agent to bring about social change is the demand of times. Above in view, critically analyze radio as a medium in the global context and relate it with the REVIVAL OF RADIO IN PAKISTAN with a purpose to identify various trends and suggest suitable option(s) for its effective utilization.
