Abstract
Biometric Class Attendance System (B-CAS) will solve the daily hectic problem of
manual attendance of the students. Currently, many automated attendance systems are
available in market that marks attendance through fingerprint scan, but their high
prices restrains the institutions from upgrading their manual attendance systems.
Currently, teachers take attendance of the students by calling their names or roll
numbers, but this method has many problems. Some student call attendance of their
friends who are not present in the class at that time or teachers usually lost their
attendance sheets. So in order to solve these kinds of problems, this system will help
to manage attendance by marking attendance through fingerprint scan through easilyavailable,
low cost fingerprint scanner. Students just have to put their thumb on
device to get their attendance marked. If the student's record is present in the
database then device will produce a sound to show that student is being marked as
“Present” otherwise student is not registered in that particular class. System will be
web-based and all attendance records will be stored online. In this way every student
will be graded at the end of the day either he/she is short attendance or percentage of
the attendance. Every class room will have a session to open for particular
class/section. In class every teacher will just open the session for particular section to
mark attendance and students will get marked their attendance by swiping their
fingers on fingerprint recognition device.
