Abstract
THEME is based on Gypsy flamenco dress, which has its roots in Seville. It is a Spanish regional (Andalusia) costume that has evolved over time, becoming a symbol of Spanish culture and a fashion icon. Flamenco style is popular worldwide. The ladies of Andalusia have idiosyncratic type of traditional wear but the supreme major are the costume of the Gitanas (Romany women) which is identified mutually as “Andalusia dress” which is a vital element of Andalusia image of Spain. The dress is commonly fitted from the upper portion of the body and from the belly down it goes into an elongated skirt which has several layers of ruffles, ruffles can be of different types. There are different types of sleeves with ruffles on it and some don’t have sleeves, due to these layers the costume turns heavy and beautiful. The dress symbolizes freedom, feminine, elegance, joy, happiness and strength. This dress is also considered from one of the oldest traditions. Although it has a lot of patterns, the most emblematic and common is “polka dots”. The costume is typically red or black. The flamenco outfit is frequently worn by women at the festivals of Andalusia, Spain. I will be working on street fashion while being in flamenco traditions and culture. In this thesis I’ll put forward the study of flamenco dress, the method and conclusions.
