Abstract
The high volume of vehicles, the inadequate infrastructure and irrational distribution of the road development are the main reasons for increasing traffic congestion. A large variety of personal vehicles, heterogeneous traffic and restricted road space cause congestion issues. The user cost problem with check post is increasing day by day due to enhanced traffic congestions at the check post. When the vehicle is waiting to turn to the checkpoint, the driver typically keeps his vehicle engine on and due to this extra fuel is consumed. This small amount of fuel is wasted in multiple cycles per day, the number of days per year, and ultimately becomes a huge fuel cost for the user. Measurement delay is important to calculate the level of service provided to road users at the checkpoint. The main aim of the current study is to quantify user cost included delay and fuel loss at a check post in Lahore city. The purpose of the project is to determine how the queue length affects the user cost at the security check posts in Lahore. User cost included; Fuel Consumption in gallons/ minute, liters/min and in rupees / hour. Vehicle operating costs depends on vehicle use, together with petrol, wheels, repairs, and depreciation costs. Travel time cost include fuel cost. Simulation of traffic flow using VISSIM micro-simulation software and to estimate the total delay at the check post. This study provides solution for the congestion by increasing the lanes and setup a check post at proper location with proper length.
