This study examines a cross-section of gender and class, and how women from lower socioeconomic backgrounds face greater challenges in education, employment, and other opportunities. It is an attempt to explore the ways in which two novels, The Henna Artist and Little Women, reflect these themes and provide insights into the lived experiences of women from different socio-economic backgrounds. The qualitative descriptive method is suitable for this study as it allows the researchers to explore the experiences of women from lower socioeconomic backgrounds in a detailed and nuanced manner. Moreover, Marxist Feminism as a theoretical lens, is able to shed light on how economic factors, such as class, intersect with gender to perpetuate inequality and discrimination against women. Using Women, Race, and Class (1981), a work by Angela Davis as a theoretical framework allows the study to contribute to the larger conversation around gender and class inequality and provide insights into how literature can be used as a tool to understand complex social issues.
