Abstract
Pakistan has a rich history, yet many heritage sites like the Brahmanabad Baoli face neglect and deterioration. Brahmanabad Baoli represents an essential part of South Asian history and water architecture, requiring urgent attention for its preservation. This thesis focuses on the Brahmanabad Baoli, a historical stepwell in Lahore, Pakistan, exploring its architectural, historical, and cultural significance. It examines the Baoli's relevance in the broader context of heritage conservation efforts. Understanding and documenting the value of a heritage site or a heritage building is very important. To assign a value to a heritage property, there are some established charters and policies under which the heritage property gets examined. This thesis addresses three main objectives. First is to assess brahmanabad baoli’s significance, second is to document the site and third suggests conservation measure to protect the baoli for future. Qualitative research methodology strategy has been opted for this study. To understand the significance and authenticity of this baoli, a value based analysis has been carried out using the Nara Grid as a tool for assessment. Immediate plan of action in terms of conservation measure suggestions include boundary and buffer zone demarcation of the baoli, its structural stabilization analysis, environmental management and proper documentation and monitoring of the baoli.
