Poly (acrylic acid-co-barbituric acid) [p(AA-co-BA)] microgels were synthesized by free radical precipitation method in aqueous medium. The Ag-Cu nanoparticle were fabricated into the [p(AA-co-BA)] microgel system by in situ reduction method. The p(AA-co-BA) and Ag/Cu-p(AA-co-BA) systems were characterized with TGA, XRD, FTIR and UV-visible spectroscopic techniques. The stimuli responsive behavior such as of Ag/Cu-p(AA-co-BA) was also studied. The synthesized Ag/Cu-p(AA-co-BA) hybrid microgel particles were used as catalyst for reduction/degradation of various dyes such as methyl blue (MB), methyl orange (MO), methyl red (MR), congo red (CR) and rhodamine B (RB) in aqueous medium in the presence of reductant (NaBH4). The catalytic activity was also checked at various pH values of the mediums investigate the effect of pH of the medium on catalytic activity.
