Abstract
Early marriages in Pakistan remain to be a major hurdle in the protection of women's rights.
The State’s claim to curb the culture of early marriages remains contradictory to the ground
reality, which suggests that in most of the rural areas in Pakistan, marriages at early ages remain
prevalent. In this research paper, we have applied qualitative research methodology and have
used semi-structured interviews to record needed and in-depth information about the issue at
hand and have resorted to purposive sampling which helped us in identifying the required
research participants hailing from rural areas of Punjab. This research project aims to examine
the overall physical and psychological impact of early child marriages on women in Pakistan,
with a specific focus on rural Punjab. The study is set to unearth the underlying causes driving
the culture of early child marriages, focusing on societal and individual-led factors. The
research project will shed light on needed policies or actions that can be effective in limiting
or addressing the issue of marriage at an early age and the importance of providing health
facilities to women.
