dc.description.abstractThe aim of the present study is to investigate the interconnected relationship between perceived parenting styles, the need to belong and perception of love and sex in adults of Pakistan. It was hypothesized that there are association between perceived parenting styles, need to belong and perception of love and sex and need to belong act as mediator between perceived parenting styles and perception of love and sex. The hypothesis was constructed that the relationship between the need to belong and perception of love and sex was mediated by perceived parenting styles. Correlational research was used with cross sectional design. Non-probability purposive sampling strategy was used to recruit the sample of N=172 adults from four different cities of Pakistan (Lahore, Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas). Revised Perceived Parenting Styles Scale (Divya & Manikandan, 2013), Revised Need to Belong Scale (Leary, M. R. 2013) and Perception of Love and Sex (Hendrick & Hendrick, 2002) were used. The result indicated that authoritative parenting had better perception of love. Authoritarian parenting had poor perception of love. Permissive parenting exposure did not affect their perception of love. Adults with better need to belong had better perception of love. Authoritarian parenting had poor perception of sex. Permissive parenting exposure did not affect their perception of sex. Age, relationship status and family system were non-significantly related to perception of sex. Male had better perception of sex as compare to female. Findings will significantly imply in the field of couple and family counseling, therapeutic, sociology, social psychology and psychology of relationships.
