Abstract
Transsexual and transgender is one of the minorities in society and therefore are
socially excluded portion of society. This study aimed to explore the social exclusion of
transgenders, Lahore, Pakistan. A qualitative design was adopted whereby two focus group
discussions were conducted comprising of 10 participants in each focus group discussion. A
focus group discussion guide was prepared accordingly including questions on familial
negation, exclusionary practices in health, educational and economic sphere as well as its
impact on them. The collected information has been analyzed thematically.
Finding shows that family is dysfunctional for transgenders, for instance, negation, denial,
lack of affection, and exclusion from the family. Exclusionary practices in education and
schools are the next dilemma of transexuals and transgenders. Discrimination terms of health
facilities is also prevalent. It includes ignoring transgenders during treatment, harassing and
use of explicate language from male doctors and nurses. Law institution also includes
discrimination against transexuals and transgender. For example, disciplinary laws, rules &
regulations, strategies and rehearses may cause targeting to transgender living in a specific
area. Familial negation, health, economic, educational and laws related discriminations have
numerous negative impacts on transexuals and transgenders.
