Abstract
By improving productivity, patient care, and data management, hospital information systems
(HIS) play a crucial role in contemporary healthcare. However, its effective implementation
continues to be a difficult task, especially in environments with limited resources like Punjab
Public Hospitals. The critical success factors (CSFs) affecting the implementation of HIS in
Punjab's healthcare system are examined in this research. The study takes a holistic stance by
taking into account many factors. It assesses the varied workforce engaged in the deployment of
the HIS, emphasizing the key role played by the IT employees. It also looks at the depth of
expertise among healthcare workers, highlighting the existence of seasoned personnel who may
have an impact on the effectiveness of HIS implementation. Healthcare professionals are
noticeably aware of HIS, according to survey responses from 142 participants, underlining its
significance for system success. However, considerable barriers such as a lack of technical
competence, poor training, personnel reluctance, and financial limitations prevent successful HIS
deployment. These difficulties highlight how crucial it is to approach CSFs intelligently. The
research also evaluates hospitals' staffing practices and the preparedness of their technological
infrastructure, offering insights into the significance of these factors for the effectiveness of HIS
implementation. This study offers important new insights into the complex CSFs and how they
interact, which advances knowledge of HIS deployment in the particular context of Punjab Public
Hospitals. It has ramifications for those working in policy, healthcare administration, and IT who
want to improve the efficiency of healthcare information systems in comparable environments.
