The oppression of women

This dissertation explains how women were treated unjustly before and they are still treated in the same manner in some areas of the world. The writers like Charlotte Bronte and Mary Wollstonecraft have explained the restricted and tough lives of the women through their miserable female characters. These writers throw light on the brutalities and injustice endured by the women who do not deserve it at all. The very concept of considering women weak and lower in status is in limelight. This description might be helpful in order to change the thinking of people when considering the positions of women in the society. The prevailing tradition of treating women in such an unpleasant manner forced me to write about it and to make everybody aware of the bitter reality that women are considered as “inferiors” who are just born for slavery. However, the courage and valor of women through all these circumstances makes me happy.
Hughes and Hansberry

This research paper focuses on Black Man’s Consciousness for Assimilation in Langston Hughes and Lorraine Hansberry by looking at and analyzing the important texts and works that these two writers have produced. The dissertation seeks to draw a connection between these two authors whose ideas and message are extremely similar and alike, even though they belonged to a different time in the struggle for the elimination of racial discrimination. Also the basic aspect that needs to be kept in focus here is how these two writers belonging to different time and gender and background have similar aspirations and ideals. This research will divulge in to an in depth analysis of the poetry of Hughes and Hansberry’s remarkable and most famous play A Raisin in the Sun. All of this will be done keeping in view, the primary topic of this paper that is consciousness and assimilation. When we talk about consciousness, it should be kept in mind that it is the awareness of one’s own identity and aspirations. It is also breaking free of the identity that has been forced upon one’s self and believing in one’s own worth. Assimilation on the other hand is the next step that emphasizes upon the absorption and incorporation of one idea or thought in to another. This paper will be specifically form a connection between the above mentioned writers by bringing out these two major aspects that are the part of this paper’s research area. Another reason that these two writers are similar is their approach towards the idea of assimilation and consciousness. Most of the African American writers at this time were rebelling against white supremacy with violence. They were becoming conscious but were not keen on merging with their deposed masters. Hansberry and Hughes took it upon themselves to not only show the injustices that had been dealt by the Whites on their brethren, but also preach the advantages of fighting for one’s rights through peaceful means. Therefore their literature bitter at times, never indulges in violence.

The relationship of frustration and guilt is also explored in this study. Guilt is a feeling caused by the realization of the fact that a person has done something wrong. Frustration of guilt can be dangerous if not dealt properly. By investigating the ways of dealing with the frustration and guilt of all the three major characters this paper contends that frustration has a demonic dimension which can be turned into a form of revenge which ultimately converts into guilt from which one has no escape expect for confessing it publically. So unlike Dimmisdale and Chillingworth, Hester is relieved from her guilt because she accepts her fault publically and uses her punishment to rebuild herself.

Demolishing patriarchy and building feminism in Girish Karnad’s play naga-mandala and water novel by Bapsi Sidhwa

Naga-mandala play and Water novel reflects upon the contemporary Indian culture and social life through the lens of myths and traditional customs. Both texts concerned with the psychological problems, feminism, child marriages and its consequences and conflicts experienced by men and women in their different social situations. The Water novel and Naga-Mandala play finishes with an end reveling that women faced problems socially and in marriage life, the process of conversion of the immature and emotionally under developed women into a settled and fully grown. Women fight against the patriarchy by their own way and they get refuge from the filthy and suffocated society that bound them in a specific place where no one is sincere to them , also they start the new chapter of their lives
Psychoanalysis of character of ‘Feroza’ under the social and cultural norms in the novel an American brat

The study investigates the psychological state of a teenage girl living in a closed eastern society. The aim of the study is to find out the elements which cause a young girl from an Asian country such as Pakistan to be psychologically and mentally weak in making her decisions about her life. It can be observed that the migration from an eastern society to a western society causes a lot of uncertainty in an individual. In this study the following questions are answered that how the societal and cultural norms of a closed eastern society affect the psychology of a teenage girl and if the western settings make a girl more independent in her life. The theories such as the theory of psychoanalysis, the theory of archetypes and the theory of feminism are used to answer these questions. The conclusion of the research is that the suffering of a teenage girl is because of her parents and her very own society. The study has also shown that there is lack of communication between the parents and their daughters from the eastern countries which is the reason for the weak state of mind of their daughters. The most significant result from this study was that if the parents want to understand the psychology of their daughters they should communicate with them.
The impact of dubbed Turkish dramas on university students

Dramas trigger a giant effect on people that have a very high impact on the lump of society and the individuals itself. This study was delineated to pinpoint and evaluate the spectators who belong from University of Management & Technology's male and female students. This research study is characterized to watch the big impact of Turkish dramas on University students and to have focused on the adoption of Turkish, culture, dressing, fashion, hairstyles and norms. The totality of this research study is the students (male and female both) of the University of Management & Technology, Lahore. For collecting data for this purpose, 101 students were arranged or stratified on the essence of male and female both students. The purpose of this research study is to show the impact of Turkish dramas on University students through dressing, hairstyle and moral values of different people. So for this, male and female students of the University of Management & Technology, Lahore were selected as a sample and Cultural Imperialism theory was also applied for this research study. The impact of Turkish dramas also highlights that major segment of the individuals getting affected by watching Turkish dramas and then they are adopting their norms and ways of life. This research study highlights that mostly women are affected by watching Turkish content. 80- 90% of women got inspiration by watching Turkish dramas and there are very few men who got inspiration from these kinds of contents.
Scrutiny of “Twilight and Delhi” and “Joys of Motherhood” Under the lens of “Misogyny” and “Simone De Beauvoir’s theory”

The method of qualitative study is being used for this research work that has laid its emphasis upon the continual flow of protagonist’s thoughts and memories. The recollections of memories along with the amalgamation of profound thoughts of the protagonist will help better to scrutinize the text under Carl Jung’s theory. Carl Jung’s theory will attest that an individual just like the novel’s protagonist can bring his/her unconscious mind into his/her consciousness through a mental effort of recalling.
Hallidayan discourse analysis of john Donne’s love poems

This paper attempts to analyze John Donne’s poetry through Hallidayan model of Discourse analysis. Previous studies on John Donne poetry have focused on scholarly and some semantic highlights, featuring the connection of theme and figuration in progress. In any case, such studies have given careful consideration to the lexical relations play in foregrounding expressive capacities, which is very crucial for a comprehensive interpretation and understanding of the poet’s idiolect. Elizabeth’s untraditional view of marriage in pride and prejudice

The social position of women was driven on the basis of the status of their family or their husband. So accordingly they had to marry a man who is best and was imposed upon them by their family. This paper proposes that Elizabeth artfully challenges the societal norms and interminably refuses to concede. Confronting the traditional gender norms, not only she asserts her feminist perspective but also, she challenges the gender discrimination, the class difference, the patriarchal Pride and the traditional matchmaking. Hence in the novel she remained determined by neglecting the societal pressure of choosing a “man of a good fortune”.

Double reading of Keats’ odes

The texts Keats has used in his odes have the potential within itself in generating new meanings, long-lasting sweetness and aesthetic value. Through the period since after his death till now critics wrote many appreciating and controversial essays on his odes, but no critics can say his work is the best interpretation of his odes. The research work will try to reach to the closest possible meaning of the text by applying the theory of Deconstruction suggested by Jacques Derrida. Theory of Deconstruction suggested by Derrida claimed that words produce meaning as a result of their differences with other words in the text. The process of Deconstruction takes place at different levels of the text, i.e. phonological, semantic, syntactic, and structural levels. In the lens of Deconstruction there is no specific or particular meaning of text. Every time a text is read, it supplies different meanings. The most important part of the Derridian study is the ‘Double Reading’ process. In the process, in the first reading, the person who is deconstructing a text has to make a go through of the text in the traditional manner, pointing out where the text seems to produce a meaning in the text. In the second reading, the person has to look for the alternative meanings and use them to negate any particular one by discovering the contradictory meanings surfaced during the process of deconstruction. In the research work the qualitative research method has been used which mainly focuses on the odes of John Keats, theory of Deconstruction by Jacques Derrida and other relating books and articles.
