Discourse of political hate speech on social media in pakistan
    (UMT Lahore, 2019) ZUNAIRA SHAFIQ
The purpose of this study is to investigate online political hate speech and to gauge the extent of intolerance in e-political discourse. The data was based on the tweets before and after elections from Twitter feeds of five Central Information Secretaries of five major Pakistani political parties. The Political Discourse Analysis approach was employed to interpret the selected texts. The analysis revealed several patterns (e.g., Criticism, Prejudice, Slurs & Sarcasm) which were realized through the selected spokespersons’ apparently strong language having an intention to sabotage their opponents. Moreover, the given data gave an insight into how the apparently plain political rhetoric has implied negative connotations. This study provides public/reader an insight into the contemporary political hate-mongering rhetoric enabling them to decode the implied hatred in political discourse in general and online political discourse in particular.
