(UMT, Lahore, 2023) Hamza Munir; Shahzaib Khan; Zain Zahid; Muhammad Talal
Tourism plays a crucial role in the economic growth and development of Pakistan. It not only contributes to foreign exchange earnings but also creates employment opportunities and promotes cultural exchange. However, the promotion of tourism in Pakistan faces various restrictions that hinder its full potential. These restrictions pose challenges in attracting tourists and showcasing the country's rich heritage and natural beauty. Addressing these restrictions is of paramount importance to unlock the full potential of Pakistan's tourism industry, stimulate economic growth, and create a positive image of the country as a desirable tourist destination. By understanding and addressing these barriers, Pakistan can enhance its tourism promotion efforts, attract more visitors, and reap the numerous social, cultural, and economic benefits associated with a thriving tourism sector. This research study investigates the restrictions that hinder tourism promotion in Pakistan and proposes practical measures to address these challenges. The main objective is to identify the types of restrictions impacting tourism promotion, using a questionnaire survey administered to employees of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab. The sample comprises all employees of the TDCP, who possess valuable insights into the barriers faced in promoting tourism. The questionnaire was meticulously designed and consisted of three sections: Section 3: explored the various types of restrictions, Section 4 assessed their impacts, and Section 5 focused on potential addressable measures. Data analysis utilized the Independent Variable Compare Mean method to derive meaningful insights. The key findings highlight that the identified types of restrictions significantly impede tourism promotion in Pakistan. These restrictions encompass challenges related to inadequate infrastructure, security concerns, limited marketing efforts, imposing curfews and limitations, and changes in visa requirements. The questionnaire also sought participants' perspectives on effective measures to overcome these restrictions. The findings reveal promising potential in the proposed measures to mitigate or eliminate the identified barriers. These measures include enhancing infrastructure and accessibility, bolstering security measures, implementing targeted marketing campaigns, streamlining curfews and limitations, and fostering positive media portrayals of Pakistan as a secure and captivating tourist destination. This research study contributes to the development of comprehensive strategies for effective tourism promotion in Pakistan. The insights gained can inform policymakers, tourism authorities, and industry stakeholders in implementing tailored interventions to address these restrictions and unlock the vast potential of Pakistan's tourism industry in the very best and effective way possible
