    Social competence, bullying and victimization among street children

    This study investigated relationship among bullying, victimization and social competence in street boys and girls. In order to measure social competence and bullying/victimization. Social competence was measured by Social Competence Scale for Children(Sultan Shujja & Farah Malik 2011) and bullying was measured by Illinois Bullying Scale(Sultan Shujja & Farah Malik) were administered on 50 boys and 40 girls (N=90). Data were collected from Child Protection Bureau, Lahore. The findings demonstrate that girls scored high on bullying, victimization while the street boys scored high on social competence. It means street girls were more likely to engage in bullying victimization and show less social competence than that of street boys. In correlation analysis, social competence was found to be significantly and negatively correlated with bullying, fight, and total bullying for the street boys. Whereas, social competence did not significantly correlate with victimization for the street boys and for the street girls. It was further demonstrated that social competence was more significantly and negatively correlated with bullying. T test was computed to find out the differences between the street boys and street girls on social competence, bullying, fight and victimization. Results revealed no significant difference on any of the above mentioned variables between street boys and street girls.
