A linguistic analysis of gender-based partiality in pakistani advertisements of selected products of domestic use
    (UMT Lahore, 2019) Nimra Raza
This study, approaching language in the broadest semiotic terms of an interplay of symbols, images and ideas, analyzes gender-based partiality in the language used in the advertisements of products of daily household use in Pakistan, their encroachment on socio-cultural norms, their cultivation of media-myths, and the impact of such phenomena on the probable sale of those products. The paramount importance of advertisements for commercial purposes as one of the most important forms of urban industrialist socialization ordains that its semiotic patterns can index the behavior of a society, especially one like Pakistan that is being rapidly transformed by the impact of globalization. Through a combination of both qualitative and quantitative research techniques, the researcher has tried to probe deep-rooted ethical concerns of the Pakistani community regarding issues of representation strategies in popular advertisements. In doing so, the exploitation of images of femininity and womanhood is uncovered in relation to media myths that directly affect the lives and thoughts of a large percentage of the population of Pakistan
