(University of Management and Technology, 2017) Naad-E-Ali Sulehria
This dissertation is a theory guided research that underpins the concept of Human security in the context of a security state using the case study of Pakistan. Knowing that Human security is itself a broad concept with various interpretations, the emphasis of the main argument rest upon two core principles of empowerment and protection. The study uses social constructivist lens to answer two research questions of how threat to human security are caused and how they can be mitigated through effective institutional delivery mechanisms. The case of Pakistanis being discussed as its citizens are vulnerable to a compendium of human security threats and therefore demand a shift in the overall security policy and national action plan. Finally, this dissertation offers a hybrid security model that tries to balance between realist security state concept and critical security studies. In conclusion, the study argues that in order to promote human security one has to endorse reverse of the identity hierarchy, meaning the placing of human identify on the highest place. Only in that way emancipation from fear and want can be guaranteed.
