Statistical optimization of ethanol production from saccharomyces cerevisiae using potato waste as a substrate
(University of Management and Technology, 2017) Muhammad Usman Aftab
The current research work was study to develop the statistical optimization of ethanol production from Saccharomyces Cerevisiae by potato peel as a substrate. Agriculture waste or Food waste produce in many of the countries all over the world and considered as a zero waste. These wastes can be used in different ways by applied different processes to convert into valuable products to fulfill the current demands of fossil fuels. Two processes liquefaction and fermentation were applied in the present work to evaluate the maximum concentration of ethanol. Current study involved optimization of liquefaction and fermentation process with 0.5% H2SO4 at 121°C for 30 mins. Various parameter such as substrate, yeast extract, pH, Incubation Period and Inoculum size were optimize by using central composite design (CCD) through response surface methodology (RSM). Liquefaction process gives reducing sugars 10.012% with different concentration of substrate ranges 4-10gm treated with 0.5% H2SO4 for 30 mins at 121°C. Whereas the fermentation process give ethanol yield 6.016% against 31 runs by used the Box Wilson Design substrate 8gm, yeast extract 2gm, pH 7.0, incubation period 5 days and 4 ml of inoculum age gives the higher yield of ethanol. Results indicates that by applying appropriate parameter and factors ethanol yield can be enhance for industrial used and fuel additives.
