    TV content rating system

    Tv dramas always remain one of the most favorite sources of entertainment throughout the history of Pakistani TV industry. Few decades back, Pakistani dramas were considered as a mirror of society and produced quality content which always keep ethics and norms of the society at its prior responsibility. But with the effects of globalization and commercialization, Pakistani media entertainment sector changed dramatically. Many social and taboo issues started to being addressed in TV dramas like, rape, harassment, extra marital affairs and romantic stories, without any precautions or parental guidelines. This study will investigate the such content which is inappropriate and not suitable for every viewer especially for teen agers and children. The objective of the study is to analyze the Pakistani dramas’ content in the light of TV content rating system. Four Pakistani TV dramas from four most famous Pakistani entertainment channels are investigated in this research work. Qualitative research method is used in this study and technique of content analysis is used to analyze the data. The result of the study reveals that, Pakistani TV dramas frequently show such content which is not appropriate for every viewer, most specifically for children. There is the need of media self-regulatory system called “TV Content Rating System” which help the parents and viewers to know about the nature of dramas content which they are going to watch and precaution the parents to avoid their children to see the drama without any parental guidelines.
