THE LIVING CAMPUS “A Design Odyssey for Progressive Learning Environments
(UMT, Lahore, 2024) Muhammad Ali Cheema
THE LIVING CAMPUS" an architecture thesis, addresses the critical need for contemporary and sustainable solutions in university campus design. The study advocates for the incorporation of modern architectural techniques and purposeful design principles in response to Pakistan's challenges of rapid urbanization, resource constraints, and outdated infrastructure. The research emphasizes sustainability, energy efficiency, and social inclusivity as integral components of higher education architecture through a comprehensive framework that includes adaptable building typologies and landscape strategies tailored to the diverse Pakistani context. The proposed strategy addresses not only immediate environmental concerns, but also envisions university campuses as catalysts for holistic student and community development. The thesis is intended to serve as a timely guide for architects, urban planners, and policymakers, with the goal of fostering a harmonious coexistence between academia and the environment. It seeks to contribute to a resilient and progressive future for higher education in Pakistan by prioritizing sustainable design, where campuses play an important role in both ecological responsibility and academic excellence.
