Influence of virtual professional development on teachers’ online classroom management practices
    (UMT Lahore, 2022) Mahnoor Naveed
he purpose of this study was to explore the influence of virtual professional training on teachers’ online classroom management practices. This study used a hermeneutic phenomenology research design. This study is qualitative in nature and has extensively explored the lived experiences of the teachers in managing their virtual classroom amid the Covid-19 wave. The researcher selected purposive sampling to explore the perceptions of the teachers regarding classroom management, challenges faced in online classes, and the influence of virtual professional training to improve their management practices. The sample of the study was five teachers from Beaconhouse School System (BSS) teaching at an early year branch selected on the basis of set criteria. Semi-structured interviews were used to explore the influence of virtual professional training on the management practices of the teachers. The analysis of the data revealed that prompt, professional training to the teachers provides confidence, updates knowledge and pedagogies, introduces them to the latest techniques and strategies, and improves their management skills. The study also revealed that synchronous and asynchronous learning could be beneficial in managing the curriculum and content in virtual classrooms. Moreover, this study findings revealed that synchronous lessons are more preferred by the students and teachers, and parents tend to be satisfied with the synchronous lessons due to the availability of the teacher during the lessons, solving many problems faced by the students by providing prompt feedback. It has been concluded that teachers need to be trained well before time, keeping in mind the changing dynamics of the education sector, and it has become the need of time as revealed by the study findings. The findings have been discussed from various perspectives, and some suggestions which are based on findings have been put forward for the policy makers to incorporate extensive courses regarding using technology and teaching remotely in the teaching degree and provide the in-service teachers with training to cope up with the current challenges.
